New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Many of the ammas of the desert greatly valued stability, a spiritual practice that simply means to stay put. Stability is still one of the vows taken by those who become monastics. The vow recognizes that in committing ourselves to a particular place and staying rooted despite changes around and within us, we grow in a way that is different than if we are constantly on the move. … Stability is not just about physically remaining in one place. The practice of stability impels us to find something worth giving ourselves to for a long, long time—a place, a community, a person, a path—and in that, to grow deeper in relationship with the God who dwells there.

—Jan L. Richardson, In the Sanctuary of Women: A Companion for Reflection and Prayer (Upper Room Books, 2010)

Today’s Scripture

But me? It’s good for me to be near God. I have taken my refuge in you, my Lord God, so I can talk all about your works!

In this season I am in change and upheaval are more prevelant than stability. Perhaps that is why God compelled me to retuen to the first church I attended when I moved to the Pittsburgh area. I do not recognize the members but the church itself feels like home. Also, the people may not be the same as those that attended when I was a member before but they are warm and welcoming.
I promised I would revisit my relationshipp with my mother. She basically ignored me when I was growing up. She had me do the majority of the housework as well as all the yard work (using an olld push reel mower). She doted on my brother because “he was growing up without a father.” She did not understand where my intelligence came from as she barely graduated high school. She never liked math and let me know she did not understand my love of and affinity with it. We were never close and she regularly hit me, including giving me a black eye. So when I visit her I try to be respectful, but she is a difficult person who is judgemental and narrow minded.
Prayers for Ally, may God lead her to a job and improve her GI health and energy. May God help David continue to improve from his long term COVID health issues. Prayers for Jill, Larry, and Becky, may Larry receive God’s healing in the following day and relieve Jill and Becky’s concerns over his breathing. Prayers for Robert as he continues to visit his family, may all be safe as they continue to join in activities that enrich their memories. Prayers for Lou and her family. Prayers for Marti and her staff. Thank you foryour prayers and may God bless al who visit here.
