New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

It is God’s very nature to be entirely distinct from the world, wholly other. For something to be considered sacred, it must be set apart; holiness requires separation first and foremost.

—William P. Brown, Sacred Tension: Embracing Dissonance and Dialogue in the Old Testament (Upper Room Books, 2025)

Today’s Question

In our chaotic world, how does today’s reflection shape the way you understand your relationship with God ? Join the conversation.

Today’s Scripture

For God is not a God of disorder but of peace—as in all the congregations of the Lord’s people.
—1 Corinthians 14:33 (NIV)

Prayer for the Week

Loving God, thank you for entrusting us with the gift of your creation. Help us to honor the earth with humility and to reflect your love in all we do. Amen.

Something More

What if the contradictions within the Old Testament were not problems to be resolved but instead were essential to its deepest meaning? In Sacred Tension, biblical scholar William P. Brown invites us to consider the Old Testament as a wide-ranging dialogue in conversation with itself and with us. Now available here.

God, You are more needed than ever. The events of today’s world are trying to push us away from You. Turning to You will help us bring Your peace to the chaos we are experiencing. I am grateful that You are always present and available. Thank You, Lord.

Wholly other…I would say “holy other”. “Be holy as I am holy”…that is how others will see we are different from the world, on a pilgrimage to another world…by our love and our holiness.
Caught a bit of a stomach bug – luckily it has quickly moved through. I was in bed all yesterday afternoon and evening. Trying to gently eat some mild things today…my stomach seems ok so far. Did not go to church. Hoping to feel well enough to attend my god son’s game this evening. A friend is bringing me soup and we are going to the game together. Hopefully this takes place.
