New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Late-night feedings don’t begin when the nipple makes contact with a child’s mouth; they begin with the rising. Though our babe may not know it for several minutes, we respond as soon as we are able. Prayer begins with the rising. The moment we turn ourselves to God, God — like a mother — begins turning toward us, even if we may not see or feel God’s presence for some time.

—Hannah E. Shanks, This is My Body (Fresh Air Books, 2018)

Today’s Question

What role does patience play in your spiritual life, especially in seasons when God feels distant? Join the conversation.

Today’s Scripture

Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.
—James 4:8 (NRSVUE)

Prayer for the Week

Loving Creator, you have made us — fearfully and wonderfully — in your image. Help us embrace our bodies, just as they are, without hesitation or shame. May we see your glory reflected in ourselves and in others. May we know that we are enough. Amen.

Patience is something I need to incorporate into my spiritual life.
Follow your dreams. It may be a long journey, but the path is right in front of you. Grace

Patience. I think God gave me an extra helping of patience. It has brought me through situations big and small, wider and narrow, to this point in my life. I think persistence goes with it. It’s the extra boost that helps me persist. Thank You, Lord.
