Today’s Reflection
We must resist the temptation to mirror the powerful entities that govern our world. Instead, we must challenge ourselves to fulfill the greatest commandment, as articulated by Jesus: to love God, and to love others as we love ourselves.
—Tasha Mitchell, “Equity,” in Where We Meet: A Lenten Study of Systems, Stories, and Hope (Upper Room Books, 2023)
Today’s Question
In what areas of your life do you find it difficult to extend love to others? How might you invite God into that struggle? Join the conversation.
Today’s Scripture
[Jesus said,] “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”
—Matthew 22:37-39 (NRSVUE)

I’m having a tough time extending love to those who are maliciously causing distress and suffering to others.
I am with you there, Mark. Glad to it isn’t just me. Blessings today.
The current administration and majority in Congress need prayers that God’s wisdom will come to them. Their oath to the Constitution is being violated. Love covers a multitude of sins and we are all sinners. May we all turn to God for guidance, empowerment, obediance, and love for all God’s creation. Thank You. Lord.
Yes, Robert – love covers a multitude of sins. I find it harder and harder to accept what I see in my school each day. And an unexpected opportunity occurred Thursday evening…my state retirement system lowered the retirement requirement a further year – and I am able to retire next month. It doesn’t seem real. I was focused on May 2026 and now it is next month. I am meeting with a counselor from the retirement system on Monday to get some questions answered, and my financial advisor Tuesday – but I am about 98% sure this is going to happen. It is time. I still so enjoy my students and what occurs inside the four walls of my classroom. But the school climate is toxic…about a month ago I found myself saying “I hate this place” when I walked out of the building to go home. That surely wasn’t nothing. My closest friends say I must take this “opportunity”. It is a “gift”. It’s very sudden and I think of my current year 1 students who I thought I would see through to graduation next year. I tear up each time I think of them.
Dad and I went golfing yesterday – it was wonderfully warm. So nice to be out in shorts. We met Becky and Don for dinner at a local Greek place we like. They all went to a Good Friday service at dad’s church last evening.
I’ve been up baking for a few hours. Once I wake up – my mind is active with all these thoughts now that so much is changing so quickly. So, get up and be productive.
This has taken my focus away from Easter weekend. I hope to re-gather my thoughts and solemnity – an Easter Service this evening and tomorrow morning to celebrate our Risen Saviour.
Yes, those that purposely do harm and create havoc are difficult for me to love. I find this is true for me not only in reference to the current administration but those who voted them into office and continue to support them and their actions. I find it difficult, also, to forgive those who harm me, not physically but emotionally. Lord, help me to forgive others as you forgive me and help me to give their fate to you.
As I have pondered this week’s readings, I asked God to show me where to go. Our downtown has a coffee shop where a diverse group of folks gather. It is a place where people show their hearts, often wounded hearts. How can I be Christ to them? By listening and sharing perhaps. Today, I struggle with those deliberately causing harm. I admit that in this moment, it is hard to love and the desire is not there. Lord, help me to extend grace, even to those who hurt Your children.
