New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Words of Hope During COVID-19

Daniel Wolpert, author of Creating a Life with God, discusses humility as the heart of the spiritual life.

Today’s Reflection

We observe the most obvious example of God’s peace in the life of Jesus. For most of Jesus’ life, the odds are stacked against him. Tested, tried, and taunted, Jesus maintains an inner serenity through it all. He knows instinctively that because he trusts God completely, all will be well—even when things aren’t in the moment. This is the peace that God offers to us.

—Trevor Hudson, Pauses for Lent: 40 Words for 40 Days (Upper Room Books, 2015)

Today’s Scripture

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.
—John 14:27 (NRSV)

I have His peace and it is the foundation upon which I rely. I know His peace will be with me – and know I will need it the most – as I continue to walk beside dad, as he ages, even day to day now as the isolation is hard on him. How gracious God was with His provision of peace, beyond what I could have imagined, as mom struggled the past year plus of her life. I know that I know that I know. And it is so good.
God – please be with all those in the health care field, as they keep running to the battle, endangering themselves as they serve. Strengthen them for the hours they are putting in and protect them from this virus. Included in this group is Andrea’s niece, R. Father, please keep her virus free, along with her family. Thank You for the volunteers, coming out of retirement, to join the battle. Thank You for that example of sacrificial living.

Don’t know the exact time when I became aware that I was the recipient of God’s peace, most likely while a big deb was being handled. These days problems are dealt with a calm, a peace that is very reassuring.
