New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

The disciples didn’t understand what Christ’s good news was supposed to look like during the forty days after the crucifixion. The miracle of Jesus was real to his followers but very much a mystery in terms of what would happen next.

We still live in a time of mystery. . . . We each face living into the mystery of the Christ who has come but who has not yet come again. We each need new and renewed ways of living into this time of not knowing.

—Jane Herring, One Day I Wrote Back: Interacting with Scripture Through Creative Writing (Upper Room Books, 2015)

Today’s Question

Who supports you in establishing new and renewed ways of living in uncertainty? Join the conversation.

Today’s Scripture

Those who know your name put their trust in you,
for you, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you.
—Psalm 9:10 (NRSVUE)

Church members, Bible study group, and the UPPER ROOM Reflection support me in establishing new and renewed ways of living in uncertainty. A “joy” filled political campaign is helping as well.
I’m thankful that God has enstilled me with a strong sense of optimism, things will get better.
    Thank You, Lord.
Home from Rhinebeck! A bit longer than expected after a great start to the trip. Glad to be home after a a good time with Jenny, Chris, Willa, and Oona. at the fair and camping.

I never really thought of it in those words…”new and renewed ways”. I have my group of 3 – but seem somewhat removed from each of them due to specific circumstances these past few weeks. Some of the most challenging weeks of my life, or at least most emotionally challenging. One of my “rock solids” – my friend who I visited a few weeks back used to be one of those. But time and distance seemed to change the reality of that. But when I reached out to her this week – we both just cried as I poured out my heart regarding my health. She hears me. Always has. My tennis friend hears me, but she is supporting a family member and is overwhelmed by that. So, I have not been able to have conversations with her, and that has been hard. God is faithful – He restores me and strengthens me. But, there are spans of time where my emotions are not reined in. It’s not overly troubling, just out of the ordinary. And I just try to ride it out.
Dad and I played our last round of golf for the summer yesterday. Just a gloriously beautiful day. My youngest nephew was at my sister’s when dad and I got back – and we enjoyed pizza and played a game.
Meeting a new hospice patient today – I will be companioning him. His sister is to meet me at his house.

It is a matter of staying involved, in my church, and in my comunity. I listen to what I am hearing in those places and try to answer the calls of God wherever I hear them.
