New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

One of the best ways of making forgiveness a reality is to pray for the welfare of the person who has caused you to suffer. That isn’t easy, but it is one of the gifts God gives us in the healing that forgiveness makes possible. Forgiveness is a gift, God’s gift, first of all, to each of us. And then a gift we give to others, a gift that, in the giving, brings to the giver unexpected and undeniable blessing.

—Kenneth Gibble, in Forgiveness: Perspectives on Making Peace with Your Past, compiled and introduced by Amy Lyles Wilson (Fresh Air Books, 2008)

Today’s Scripture

But I say to you that listen, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.
—Luke 6:27-28 (NRSV)

Prayer for the Week

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.

I think scripture has helped me forgive through prayer. I certainly pray that things will work out for Erich. I’m committed to doing what I can to put him in a position where he can do his part. That’s very important. Have had meetings this week, they have been positive. There has been progress on the Brill car model, but it won’t be finished in time for the convention. It will be an example of a work in progress modeling the Central Vermont Railway. have many other finished models to show. Will see church friends from my former church on Friday, Very excited about that. NEM is in my prayers. Jill, Larry, Becky-family, school, and friends, Julie and Megan, Ally & David, Lou and family, and all who come to NEM. Didn’t see the moon, no Chuseok food, but did see pictures of my granddaughter. Blessings to all. Thank You, Lord.

Growing and healing through my Bible readings and interactions here and elsewhere have led me to a place where can forgive.
So many things are changing so quickly! I am in constant turmoil! Megan got a job, the meeting with the lawyer was good and bad. I can now start looking for aa new car and she will go through h’s lawyer to take care of the money. We are still moving forward with the divorce which means there will be a pretrial hearing next week. She will bring up my health and impending surgery and she thinks things will not move forward until December. I will need to be more forceful I guess.
Prayers for Ally and David’s health and finances, Roger’s health and Jill’s slowing getting back to activities, Lou and her family, Robert and Erich, may Erich appreciate all Robert has done for him, Marti and her staff. Thank you for your prayers and kind words. May God bless all who visit here.

Confessing in prayer that I don’t want to forgive and asking God to change my heart. Submission, again and again, brings me to a place of softening…God taking my heart of stone and giving me a heart of flesh – which desires to honor Him. Knowing that under my own power and will – I cannot move close to full forgiveness.
This first day of Fall was spot on here…falling temps during the day, no a hint of sun and finally the heavy rain in the afternoon. I was surprised to find it dry this morning, so I went out for a run.
My sister informed me that she and her husband would be in Florida for Thanksgiving – for sure. So dad will go down ahead of me and I will be down for the full week of Thanksgiving. It’s scary how cheap the flights are and that we can fly non-stop from our airport. We will be at the beach for a week – the beach where we used to always meet up with mom and dad and mom’s sister and her husband. Since I won’t be able to go in February – this is when we can have a week there.
Ally – will be praying for you and David both, with this new circumstance regarding the wedding. A difficult situation for you – as forgiveness is pondered this week. May you hear His still, small voice.
(I read that passage this morning, regarding Elijah…not it the loud wind, not in the earthquake. But in a still, small voice.)
Father, attune all our ears to You.
