New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

One of the best ways of making forgiveness a reality is to pray for the welfare of the person who has caused you to suffer. That isn’t easy, but it is one of the gifts God gives us in the healing that forgiveness makes possible. Forgiveness is a gift, God’s gift, first of all, to each of us. And then a gift we give to others, a gift that, in the giving, brings to the giver unexpected and undeniable blessing.

—Kenneth Gibble, “What Forgiveness Is and Is Not,” in Forgiveness: Perspectives on Making Peace with Your Past, compiled by Amy Lyles Wilson (Fresh Air Books, 2008)

Today’s Scripture

[Jesus said:] “Love your enemies; do good to those who hate you; bless those who curse you; pray for those who mistreat you.”

Prayer for the Week

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.
(This week’s prayer can be found in Matthew 6:9-13, NIV.)

Based on today’s reflection I started praying for the person I wish/need to forgive. Thank you NEM and Lord for this suggestion.
I’m having a good time visiting Jenny, Chris, Willa, and Oona. All sorts of things going on: swimming, pony riding, gardening, game playing, shortcake eating, and book buying. Thank You, Lord for a safe trip.
