Today’s Reflection
Love aimed outward means an irrepressible drive toward God, the universe, and one’s neighbor that liberates us from spiritual blindness and transforms us from individuals into a community. It’s also the kind of love that focuses on the divine but is yet bound in the body. This love nudges us to get up and move, to answer the longing, and to accept the calling of the sacred spark inside us.
—Nadiyka Gerbish, “God Who Lives in Us,” in Disciplines 2025 (Upper Room Books, 2024)

To me “love aimed outward” is what love is supposed to do, caring for the needs, concerns, of others. There are two people close to me who are cared for first. I advocate for the needs of others.
It was a good and busy day at church with welcoming new people, worship, communion, fellowship,
and the associated tasks. Thankfully it all went well.
My Bible/book study copy arrived Saturday in time for class tomorrow. We are reading 1 Corinthians focusing on chapter 13 and learning about context from Pastor Josh Scott.
The newsletter from my previous church arrived, thankfully they have a new pastor.
These were the wonderful blessings of the day. Thank You, Lord.
Love turned outward is what Jesus portrayed and what he called us to do in his absence. It is caring for the least of these. It is caring for our neighbors, even those we do not like. I pray that Jesus enables my eyes to see,my heart to respond and my hands to act.
Love aimed outward is a selfless love, a compassionate love. It is seeing the want, need, suffering in another – and attempting to bridge the gap. For me – it is seeking out those who are at a very vulnerable place and being willing to hold space with them.
Got the family to the airport and they arrived safely last evening. Spent a few hours at a tennis teammate’s pool party. It was mostly family and some friends, no tennis people. One of her cousins was a student of mine almost 20 years ago. Nice to meet her husband and kiddos.
A quiet day today – some household chores, schoolwork, and lots of tennis on tv. A beautiful day – windows are open and the Kittens are loving it.
