New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Suffer with all things and all people. . . . See the entirety of the evil of the world, on its backside, so to say, and look through it, into the face of God.

—Keith Beasley-Topliffe, Editor, The Upper Room Spiritual Classics: Writings of Thomas Kelly (Upper Room Books, 2017)

Today’s Question

How is suffering different when you suffer with God? Join the conversation.

Today’s Scripture

It is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.
—Matthew 13:31 NRSVUE

Prayer for the Week

O God who lives within me, when evil prevails, when dry and barren seasons come, you suffer beside me, and you beckon me into your peace. As I sit, quietly in your presence, you teach me the way of serenity. Amen.

God helps me be patient, quiet, enduring, in the midst of rants of frustration. A long awaited, planned trip is coming up. Very hopefully it will help move life forward. Thank You, Lord. for You
    are with me.

He provides me the strength to endure.
Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day.

I’m afraid I don’t suffer well. I suppose no one does. There have been times of suffering when I felt the presence of the Lord strongly. Lord, give me ears to hear Your voice. Help me to be aware of Your presence when You feel far away.
Lots of appointments for David in November and December. I have some too. Please pray for wisdom for me about work and life balance. Pray also for our Lucy Kitty. She is not feeling well. I may take her to the vet tomorrow. Pray for David, as just congestive heart failure seems to be progressing. Pray for my stomach issues.
I have been sitting in scripure from Habakkuk. The Lord tells Habakkuk to write the vision and make it clear enough for anyone to understand. I want to understand.
