New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

I can’t make it by myself. United with Christ, I am given divine love and power. None of us can make it by ourselves. But, just as air is readily available for its life-giving support, so God’s love is abundantly given to us. We can receive the gifts of God and let go of our own efforts. It’s as simple as breathing—inhaling and exhaling.

—J. David Muyskens, Sacred Breath: 40 Days of Centering Prayer (Upper Room Books, 2010)

Today’s Scripture

God’s spirit made me;
the Almighty’s breath enlivens me.
—Job 33:4 (CEB)

Prayer for the Week

Pause to breathe deeply. Fill your lungs with fresh air. Hold that breath briefly. Then release the air you are holding, ridding yourself of the old and making space for the new. And as you breathe, rejoice in the gift of life. Let the rise and fall of your lungs be a celebration of the amazing gift of being alive!
Submit your prayer to The Upper Room.

Something More

For too long Lent has been thought of as a season of self-sacrifice and discipline, but author Max O. Share the gifts of God with others. I try to do that every day in some way. Still cold here in NH, 15 going to 25 then down to 12 under partly sunny skies. Still that’s a lot warmer than winters in the 50s and 60s when at least one week in the winter it stayed -20 the whole week. Snowfall is also way off, Diner windows installed, shades almost done, Pray you ate all safe, think especially of Julie and Marcy, but we all need to be safe in this pandemic.

I have been doing exactly what the author describes. As I breathe out I envision breathing in the Holy Spirit and as I exhale I envision breathing out the evil and sin and anxiety.
Prayers for Robert, may he remain virus free until he is vaccinated in March.
Prayers for Ally and David and may Ally’s business grow and may she find an interim position that allows her more time to recuperate.
Prayers for Jill and her students. May her spirit be renewed in her calling as a teacher and mentor and may her students realize that they need to engage with her and learning in order to further their education and future aspirations.

Good day, family. I read yesterday’s meditation and confess that I tend to dwell on bitterness regarding past hurts. There are instances, both at least 20 years ago, in which I’ve had trouble praying for those who harmed me. I pray for the willingness to pray for these folks. I’m thankful for a God who extends grace.
Re: today’s reflection: I am not always good at receiving gifts. In the back of my mind I feel I’m not deserving. The exercise here is good practice for me: breathe in, exhale. I cannot make it by myself. Lord help us to practice thankfulness for all Your good gifts. May our lives be a prayer to You.
Had a text yesterday from Rachel’s mom, who is my first cousin. Rachel is keeping down liquids and walked a short distance. She is progressing. Thank you for your prayers! Robert, glad to hear of progress on the diner. Stay warm and safe. Praying as you seek some help in how to deal with your son. May all your children find Jesus. Jill, thankful that Larry has experienced minimal effects from vaccine and that its administration will bring peace of mind. Praying with you as you seek wisdom and that God will renew your joy as you practice your call of teaching. Julie, praying with you for your and Megan’s safety and that the centering prayer exercise bring you some peace. Lifting up Marcy, praying that her new meds help and she will have renewed energy and wellness. I pray we all stay safe and well. I’m very thankful for a pandemic plan which is proactive and goals oriented. Blessings to all.

For me, recognizing – even in the simplest things – God’s hand, His provision. And to be intentionally grateful…have an attitude of gratitude. So much, everything is a gift. Even the struggles, the hardships – these can and are used by Him to stretch us, to grow us. Do I dare to pray boldly for Him to use ANY means to draw me closer to Him? Some days, yes, this is on my radar. I am able to do this, because I know He is with me, always with me.
My god daughter has a game tonight. But I was disappointed to find the school she is playing against is not live-streaming it. Will get text messages from my friend updating me.
