Today’s Reflection
Our finite human bodies always march us to the grave. That is certain. But there is hope for our soul and spirit. “Weeping may linger for the night, but joy comes in the morning.” Christ’s love, teachings, sacrifice, crucifixion, and resurrection all point to devotion to God. For all our material suffering in these bodies, we are promised a spiritual life of joy through Jesus Christ.
—J. Dana Trent, “Deepening Devotion,” in Disciplines 2025 (Upper Room Books, 2024)
Today’s Question
When in your life has God turned your wailing into dancing so that you could sing God’s praises? [question from J. Dana Trent in Disciplines 2025] Join the conversation.
Today’s Scripture
You have turned my mourning into dancing; you have taken off my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,
so that my soul may praise you and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever.
—Psalm 30: 11-12 (NRSVUE)

Every now and then today’s question reappears here. In my lifetime thus far the one example that
stands out came shortly after my wife passed away. It was very welcome, helped me recover, and yet it too ended after a short time. The greatest blessing of it was a deeper spiritual faith that has continued to this day. Physically I am alone, but spiritually I am always surrounded by the One who knows me best. Thank You, Lord.
A project to make elderberry jelly with church members is in the making. Long awaited and with excitement and anticipation high, the goal is elderberry jelly to benefit church members and the church. Growing up it was a staple for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
Midweek blessings to all, thankful for wonderful weather.
I haven’t had an outstanding experience as Robert has described but small sometimes seemingly insignificant happenings remind me that God is near and for this I am thankful. I seek Him daily and yes- we are never alone. God is near.
I am coming out of a minor time of weeping and grieving – acceptance that my surgeries have not alleviated my issue with sitting pain free – and am back on level ground. A new song was introduced at church 4 Sundays ago. The first time – I cried through most of it…sat and emotionally weary. I have cried a little less each Sunday, a little less emotionally. While there were a few tears this past Sunday, they were not bitter, nor sorrowful. Just emotional, stemming from gratitude. Yes, He will supply my every need.
Back in the flow at school. Getting to know my new group of students and enjoying very much being with my Year 2 students – seniors.
