Today’s Reflection
As surely as our suffering moves God, God beams with delight when we shine in the fullness of our power and giftedness. When we use our gifts, claim our power, find our voice, or own our dignity, God cheers for us. “That’s my girl,” the voice from the heavens champions. “That’s my boy. That’s my beloved in whom I am well pleased.”

Today’s Scripture
While [Peter] was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud a voice said, “This is my Son, the Beloved; with him I am well pleased; listen to him!”
—Matthew 17:5 (NRSVUE)
Prayer for the Week
Lord, open our eyes that we may see you in our brothers and sisters.
Lord, open our ears that we may hear the cries of the hungry, the cold, the frightened, the oppressed.
Lord, open our hearts that we may love each other as you love us.
Renew in us your spirit.
Lord, free us and make us one. Amen.

How I long to hear those words…even to sense them in my innermost part. I believe I have sensed them on rare occasions. It comes as a blessing, that my heart is touched. Let me explain. My last hospice patient – the time I spent with her – I hope she was as blessed by it as I was. The two of us shared a holy space, talking about our faith, our families, our desires. To see someone on death’s doorstep, proclaiming God’s sovereignty and goodness and speaking with hope of her family. God was honored during that time, was indeed there in the room with us. I was blessed so deeply having spent this time with her. She passed into His Presence on Sunday – and I am rejoicing with her.
Meeting my tennis friend for coffee this morning. Communication has been sporadic – it will be good to catch up. The remainder of the day will be quiet. Very much enjoying a good library book – maybe will be able to finish it today.
