New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

We do not find Jesus on our own, it seems. Someone else points to him. And sometimes we need to really listen because the people who point to Jesus may not be exciting, attractive, or compatible people. But we need to listen to them even if we are not comfortable with them because they are too poor or too rich, have a strange accent, dress differently, or speak another language. If we want to find Jesus, we need to spend time with people who are not the same as we are. And we have to listen to them.

Today’s Question

How might you listen with humility to people who are different from you this week?
Join the conversation.

Today’s Scripture

How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?
—Romans 10:14 (NIV)

A friend and my son are different from me on certain issues (children in a worship service, faith in God) I’m trying to hear Jesus in their comments. It’s a striuggle. What would Jesus do? I believe that what Jesus would do would be thre right action. I won’t give up my faith in. God. I’m where I am now because of my faith. Thank You, Lord.

Remember the Israelites were afraid when Moses’ face shone when he came down from the mountain and the people were afraid .Throughout the Bible we are told to fear not. Worship the Lord. Magnify the Lord. Bow low. Thank him. God is a God who forgives.

A Mexican congregation uses our church following our worship service. They worship much differently than we do. For example they use drums and guitars. Mostly the congregations do not converse. I could try to speak with one of their group.
