New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

That’s the offer that God makes for each of us. It sucks to fail. We have to name that. We cannot glibly spout off phrases such as “Failure makes you stronger” without acknowledging how difficult it is to come back from failure. But we also cannot be paralyzed by the feeling that failure is final.

—Christian Coon, Failing Boldly: How Falling Down in Ministry Can Be the Start of Rising Up (Discipleship Resources, 2017)

Today’s Question

Think about the failures in your life that still carry a sense of finality. How might God be inviting you to see them differently? Join the conversation.

Today’s Scripture

We are afflicted in every way but not crushed, perplexed but not driven to despair, . . . struck down but not destroyed.
—2 Corinthians 4:8–9 (NRSVUE)

Prayer for the Week

Loving God, in our failure and our pain, remind us that we are still your beloved. Give us the courage to face what hurts, the grace to grow from it, and the faith to trust that no failure is final in your hands. Help us risk, hope, and live boldly—knowing you walk with us every step of the way. Amen.

Of my 78 years, I was married for 23, and attempts to find someone new have ended. Thankfully I have activities that keep me busy. God is ever present, knows me better than anyone, and God’s love and grace carry me forward. Thank You, Lord.

Both of my marriages were failures, though the second lasted close to 30 years it was devoid of love, kindness or respect. I, like Robert, seek no more romantic entanglements but immerse myself in activities. I have found a wonderful church community as well as kind people through the activities I enjoy.

Our church is having a sermon series on unlearning. We are encouraged to take a second look at how we were taught as children about the Bible and the meaning of it then ….and now look at the stories from an adult view as well as from the writings of new authors. Much research has taken place since I was young and I have life experiences that I didn’t have then, so that I do open my mind to learn a different way of understanding the Bible. I do not see this as failure, but rather awakening me to take another look befor making decisions. It takes effect to unlearn and then learn again, but I believe this is what God is telling me to do when he says to get wisdom. I pray for God’s wisdom to be infused in my mind that I might be His hands and feet as I walk my journey of life. I pray for wisdom for all who are questioning situations and planning for the future. May His wisdom prevail so that His will may be done on earth as in heaven.
    Blessings dear NEM family.
