New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Sabbath as community arrives when we find ourselves sitting with one another in shared awe and wonder, marveling at what it means to be present. It is then that we connect ourselves to the divine mystery of sabbath, when God showed us how to cease from our work in order to actually enjoy creation—together.

—J. Dana Trent, For Sabbath’s Sake: Embracing Your Need for Rest, Worship, and Community (Upper Room Books, 2017)

Today’s Question

When was the last time you set aside your work and enjoyed creation? Join the conversation.

Today’s Scripture

All the earth honors the LORD;
all the earth’s inhabitants stand in awe of him.
—Psalm 33:8 (CEB)

Prayer for the Week

O God, our Creator and Redeemer, help me to realize my need for sabbath time in my busy life. Please give me a hunger for sabbath time so I can spend more time with you, my family, and my faith community. Amen.
Submit your prayer to The Upper Room.

My goal is to do this every day. I feel so much better when I do! Walking every morning is very important, more so than going to the gym and participating in Silver Sneakers.

I do it almost everyday that I walk and I walk a lot.
A home made breakfast at church this morning by one of our members. Absolutely delicious.
Communion and more people in church. Fellowship time was well attended.
Thankful my connection to my 3-in-one was restored. It could have been done a while ago, but a
    communication failure occurred.
I’m learning more about my Hessian ancestors sent to America by their ruler as auxiliaries to the British.
It was an awkward situation. I wish it hadn’t happened, many died of disease or combat, but there were some who either by desertion or release stayed in America. While they came from towns where my family once lived, I don’t think any with my last name were involved. Relatives, possibly.
Blessings to all on Trinity Sunday.

The last few weeks of school I was able to get out for a walk during the afternoon. Truthfully, it was more about getting out of the building than “enjoying creation”…at least intentionally “enjoying creation”…it was more just other-ness.
I did work in my yard yesterday, mowed…the grass is almost late July-like, starting to burn out as we have not had rain for several weeks. Nevertheless, a crisp cut lawn just makes me happy. All the plants I have purchased have been planted. I was going to mulch, but still need to buy about 3-5 more things to put in the one area. I have been faithfully watering every morning as we are in a drought. It is very enjoyable to be out there in the stillness of the morning, no breeze and just the birds and their melodies.
A full day, a good day. I got to see my friend this evening as we both served at the homeless shelter. Her divorce is final and she is struggling quite a bit. I was able to give her a long hug and hold her. My heart breaks for her and all the sadness she is trying to hold.
