New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

With his eye on the life and teachings of Jesus, Henri suggests that our deepest desire be to help create a community of love in the world. Our mission, our overarching purpose, is to love. There are many ways to make this purpose concrete in our lives. We may be surprised (and excited!) to read Henri’s assurance that fundraising is a practical and privileged way to build a community of love, bring justice into the world, and learn how to walk humbly with God. Fundraising is a way of loving deeply.

—Nathan Ball, Henri J.M. Nouwen, A Spirituality of Fundraising Workbook Edition (Upper Room Books, 2019)

Today’s Scripture

Finally, all of you, have unity of spirit, sympathy, love for one another, a tender heart, and a humble mind.
—1 Peter 3:8 (NRSV)

Community – a word taken for granted pre-March 2019. And now, how I long to be in community with my friends from church. How I long to be in community, sharing with my fellow sojourners in the cancer support groups. I do believe we CAN be a changed people for the better, coming out of this pandemic. A deeper appreciation for what community can and does mean. A true community where love is the staple and out of it flows selfless actions. May the hope of this buoy us in these days.
Father – in Your great mercy – hear our prayers.
Father – for Marcy – in Your will and timing – bring relief from the migraines and restore her vision.
Father – for David and Ally – in Your will and timing – continue to heal David. May his wound not be infected and heal properly. May Ally stay on track to have her cataract surgery and until then, may her vision be sufficient to tend to necessary tasks and travel.
Father – for Julie and Megan – in Your will and timing – bring resolution to their daily living in turbulence. May they continue to support each other well. May Julie’s lawyer continue to work diligently for her and a most needed outcome.
Father – for Robert – in Your will and timing – continue to provide means for everyday living, simple joys in his train hobby and opportunities to be out in Nature, even as winter draws near.
Father – for those we hear from less frequently – Lou and her children, BJ, April, Rick – in Your will and timing – continue to comfort, uphold and work in their lives and the lives of their dear ones.
And Father – for those whom we remember, but miss their words of sharing and speaking into our lives – in Your will and timing – Andrea, Connie, Rusty, Mary, Betsy – Father – shepherd them, use them where You have them planted to impact others for Your Kingdom.
Father – thank You for hearing our cries – always – and for the blessing which is today. May we love others well. Thank You for loving us.

As I read today’s question, I thought of my work in corrections. By serving and advocating for the offenders I work with, I can help facilitate a community within these walls. I pray each day that God will use me to help an offender want to make the necessary changes so that he can be successful and learn to love and serve others when he transitions to his community. It is not easy, but if I can help one person realize his potential so that God can use him, then the hard work is worth it.
David and I appreciate the continued prayers for our our health. Thank you.
Jill, thank you for your thoughts about what it means to build community. I am in agreement with you in prayer for all the persons and needs you mentioned today: Lord in Your mercy, hear our prayers. Thank You Lord, for our UR community. May we build and put on love. Amen.

The more traditional means of building communities of love are not availble to us. But new means of loving others are a result of our current conditions. Wearing a mask shows others that we embrace our part in keeping ourselves and others healthy. Washing our hands helps show our love for our family members who live with us. By doing all we can to remain free of COVID we slow the spread and surge of cases thereby alleviating the burden on our healthcare workers and systems and free up space for others in over crowded hospitals.
Prayers for Jill and her students who are mourning their lost time together.
Prayers for Ally and david, may God lay his hands of healing on them.
Prayers for Marcy, who is losing Roxy due to relocation. May she quickly find another caregiver who is allotted the same amount of hours per week.
Prayers for Robert and the changing weather and his continued walks in nature, may he remain safe despite the conditions.
Lord, please hear our prayers and cries and quiet weeping

One of those not too often busy days. no reflection early this morning, then a activity filled day, on the road, a bite to eat, snow tires put on, it flurried here today, a little hobby wotk, decals coming, Face Time with my daughter, supper, the news, and a ZOOM Advent-Christmas planning meeting. Found the reflection. AMEN to the prayers, especially health and safety issues, those we miss. Thank You, Lord

Good evening UR Family. Bless you all for being faithful posters on this site and holding me in your prayers. I wanted to update you and let you know that I I hold you in my prayers and pray that God’s will be done, that His ways would be in my mind, and that His songs would be in my heart.
I am not feeling up to having my mind stretched with the devotionals, rather I am feeling defeated that I am not up to providing a meaningful response. I need to hear the word spoken. I have been listening to webinars that affirm I am a Beloved Child of God. I am never alone. The 8 habits of love. None of these require a response, just opening my heart to accepting the Good News from Jesus. I am content with this decision, and will continue to monitor the site from time to time. Blessings to each of you and please know that I have certainly learned so much from each of you. May God Bless you today and always.
