New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Words of Hope During COVID-19

Missy Buchanan, author of several books on aging and faith, tells the story of a road trip with her grandkids and lessons we can learn for unsettling times.

Today’s Reflection

God is willing to split open the heavens to declare that we are God’s beloved children. God wants us to know we bring God much happiness. God calls us to live as people who are beloved. From Jesus, we learn that once we come to own God’s deep love for us, we cannot help but want to share that news with others. We feel compelled to help others recognize and own God’s deep love for themselves.

—Kristen E. Vincent, We Are Beloved: A Lenten Journey with Protestant Prayer Beads (Upper Room Books, 2019)

Today’s Question

Today’s Scripture

And when Jesus had been baptized, just as he came up from the water, suddenly the heavens were opened to him and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.”
—Matthew 3:16-17 (NRSV)

Remembering what my life was like – when there was no peace, this is one of the things which compels me on, to share my story, to try to explain to others the radical difference Christ has made in my life. It’s about ceasing striving to be a good person, and living life in the lane He has placed me and trying to mirror His goodness and love to those around me. Not about making a significant difference or forcing something on the other, but about living authentically and having a person be drawn to me, to question what is different about me. Allowing my hope to be evident, and living with an attitude of gratitude.
I spent a significant amount of time with the student whom I mentioned yesterday, in a google meet. Her family back story is a mess and her current situation is so very far from ideal. The school counselor is involved. While I was listening to her words through her tears, I was thinking – this is way beyond my scope. I was asking God to give me the right words, and reminding myself that my listening is enough right this moment, this is what she needs. If you all could please lift a prayer for her – D, I would appreciate it. And ask God to give me the wisdom and discernment necessary for our next conversation, that my words would be His words.
It was good to gather with my small group last night on-line. Good to hear other voices, see smiling faces, to gather around the Word of God.
May His peace be ours today.

There are often times when the words needed to express my thoughts in response to the daily question are hard to come by.. Today is an example. Telling of the things I do doesn’t seem right either. God knows.
Have been encouraged, taught, brought up to help others and God surely is behind that.
Hopefully some help with this keyboard. It’s slow going. Prayers for all in this tough time. God will see us through. Thank You, Lord.
