Today’s Reflection
During a season of profound depression and discouragement, Luther wrote his most famous hymn, “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God,” which picks up on themes in Psalm 46. It’s not that God makes everything smooth and easy. But God is “a bulwark . . . our helper amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing.” . . .
We don’t defeat evil by trying hard or thinking right thoughts. . . . And why can we be bold and confident? We have “the right man on our side . . . Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is he . . . He must win the battle.” Ours is to follow, join, and be caught up in the wake of what he is doing.

Something More
After a significant loss, many people rush to get back a sense of normalcy without allowing themselves time to heal and learn from that loss. Our loving and compassionate God longs to walk with individuals on a transformational journey through loss toward becoming more emotionally and spiritually whole. What Loss Can Teach Us: A Sacred Pathway to Growth and Healing, shows readers that God offers an “on ramp” to the process of tending to their pain.

Prayers for all today.
I was given a daily devotional book “A Song in my Heart”one year. Everyday is a short story behind the song such as the life of the composer or situation in which it was written or sung. When I was a teenager I played the organ for our small church so I would sing along as I played to remind myself which stanza we were on:)). As is read the devotional, I find myself humming along with the story and the song. Some favorites are:
Blessed Assurance
His eye is on the Sparrow that a vocalist often sang and I played for
Up from the grave He arose
Leaning in the Everlasting Arms
And so many more. Songs truly are a blessing, thank you to all who make them possible for me to sing and be refreshed, knowing that God is always my shepherd.
Prayers for all.
There’s no single hymn that does it, it takes a grand selection. Love Divine All Loves Excelling, A Mighty Fortress is Our God, How Great Thou Art, the Christmas and Easter hymns, Hallelujah Chorus, and the list goes on. Thasnk You , Lord for the many wonderful hymns You have inspired.
The two hymns that come to mind were my grandmother’s favorites,”Children of the Heavenly Father” and “In the Garden.” I also love the Welsh hymn, “Be Thou My Vision.” And there are so many others. I especially love the old traditional hymns.
