New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

We will pray for peace, recognizing where our own power ends and the power of God begins. We will pray with the confidence of those who are doing what they can but who do not delude themselves about the sufficiency of their own efforts. We will remember the one with whom we are in covenant and rely on God to fulfill our purposes since it was God, after all, who put them into our hearts.

—Barbara Brown Taylor, “A Lasting Peace,” in The Wondrous Mystery: An Upper Room Advent Readercompiled by Benjamin Howard (Upper Room Books, 2019)

I find images of peace extremely hard to imagine. Imagination is not a quality I have. Feelings, emotions might be easier. Calm, still, motionless come to mind. Thank You, Lord for coming down from heaven to be Emanuel. Thankfully You are still with us and fill the hearts of all who turn to You.
You enable us to carry on and share Your light with the world. Thank You, Lord.

Images of peace. Not sure what should come to mind as far as the peace of Christ. Yesterday’s question as related to peace that Christ brings, seems related to justice. I once saw a bumper sticker that said, “if you want peace, work for justice “. The goodness and justice we can bring to the world as Jesus followers is the true peace. May it be so. Merry Christmas to all who visit NEM. I pray peace for us all.
