New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

We see Jesus performing a small act with huge consequences as he and his disciples move through Jericho. By now Jesus’ reputation has grown, and he is highly sought-after. In this scene (see Mark 10), he is surrounded by a huge crowd. In the midst of the cacophony, a desperate Bartimaeus cries out. He is blind; and, in that time and culture, he has no way of supporting himself or his family. He desperately wants his situation to change. Yet when he cries out for help, there is a popular attempt to intimidate him and leave him in his present condition. Fortunately for Bartimaeus, Jesus hears and pays attention. Jesus invites him to draw nearer and asks about his need. With a trusting heart, Bartimaeus shares his deepest concern—and he is set free from his blindness. Jesus gives him new life.

Today’s Scripture

Many sternly ordered him to be quiet, but he cried out even more loudly, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” Jesus stood still and said, “Call him here.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take heart; get up, he is calling you.” So throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus.
—Mark 10:48-50 (NRSV)

True faith and belief and reliance on God can free us from reliance on things/ people that we think will bring us happiness and freedom. We live shackled to earthly pleasures often losing sight of God who can set us free. As I’ve gotten older I am less tied to things and people’s opinion or inclusion of me. I’m happy to be with my friends but I don’t have to be tied to them for my happiness. My faith brings me true contentment. But I work on this and my commitment every day- a work in progress. Thank you Lord for setting us free.

Wonderful words Lou. I see a direct connection between faith and liberation. Faith leads to liberation, is essential for liberation. Yes, thank You Lord for setting us free.
A very white snow-capped Mount Washington yesterday and a new trail in the White Mountain National Forest were delights to experience. Prayers of joy and concern from Sunday’s worship were shared on line. Lay led worship continues, thank You, Lord. Prayers for NEM .

I am praying this is true. I have yet to be liberated from so much pain and fear. But this situation is going to end in months and we shall see what replaces it. I fear the future and my financial wellbeing, which if h hadn’t forced me to quit my job would not be an issue.
The doctor’s appointment went better than I thought. Will have to take Elaquis for several weeks following surgery.
Prayers for Ally and David’s health and finances, for Jill and Larry and their future relationship and responsibities, for Lou and her family, for Robert and his church and the laity who will be delivering each Sunday’s message, for Marti and her staff. Thank you for your prayers and may God bless all who visit here.

Faith in Christ can liberate us from the chains of guilt and worry. It can make way for grace, mercy, justice, for us personally and for the world. Lord, help me to to surrender doubts and move forward with faith.
David and I are several days out from our boosters and feeling more like ourselves. David has appointment with a urologist Monday. Can’t remember if I told y’all about his PSA being quite elevated at his last Dr. appointment. We are trying not to be too anxious. Thank you for continued prayers for our needs.
Prayers for Jill, and that the issue with her colleague is working itself out, for a nice fall break with family, and for her and her students’ safety. Robert, prayers continue for your church and for all laity who take leadership roles. Praying also for your counseling sessions, that they continue to be much benefit. Prayers for Erich, that he will find peace and that your relationship with him will see healing and restoration. Lou, thank you for your wisdom and insight into how our faith and reliance on God will set us free. Julie, good news that your appointment went well. Praying for your surgery. Praying your job lead works out. Prayers that Megan’s job is going well.
Prayers for our NEM family, that we ate aware of God’s presence and goodness. Blessings to all.

Faith, sustaining and growing, liberates us from what used to be dominant and prioritized. Now these things fall away or are at least moved to the back burner. Faith also liberates us to love freely, to give generously, and to share the Good News with those willing to listen. We no longer crave acceptance, social status, and things. We find a new level of comfortability in modesty, in trusting our well being to our Sovereign Lord. We look back gratefully at the valleys He led us through and the growth we experienced during those times. Thank You, Father, for the reality of this. Lead us deeper into Your Kingdom work.
An encouraging afternoon with my students. My one group of seniors – we had a good back and forth. At least I feel that way. I know I connected a bit more with some of them. There will always be the more reluctant…I will keep at it. And my rigorous year one class – what a wonderful group of strong students, who pursue their goals and are not thwarted by an obstacle. I will seek to increase their grit and tenacity. So encouraging. I am blessed beyond measure to have my classes and my schedule. Thank You, Father.
Tornado warnings all about during dinner. Quite a bit of rain, but the sky never turned threatening at my house. Looked very dark to the north.
Early to bed this evening, as I was up late last night with small group. Won’t be staying up to watch my team play football. So many injuries and with this weather – probably an ugly game.
Still pulling hard for those Bo Sox, Robert.
