Today’s Reflection
Why do adults tend to lose their sense of childlike wonder over the years? When did I decide that bending over and searching the sand for a piece of frosted sea glass was too much trouble? Why am I not exploring the sand with my feet, as if investigating the surface of the moon? Today I intend to reclaim the wonder of childhood. I will get up from my beach chair and step out of my comfort zone, asking God to restore my sense of wonder. I will hold seashells in my hands and study the intricacy of each one. I will throw out misconceptions that tell me that maturing years are dreary and monotonous. Wonder is that divine spark that awakens my curiosity and deepens my awareness of God.

Perhaps I’m too far beyond childhood to remember a childhood wonder that I wish was still prominent in my life. On the other hand I may still have some of that. Defining childhood wonder might also be helpful. For sure, the excitement of Christmas morning comes to mind.
Pleasant weather although there is some rain almost every day, temps in the 50s, no smoke.
Prayers for people impacted by the smoke. Were we in PA we would be effected.
Time for a nap , hockey tonight.
Blessings to all.
I still have a child-like sense of wonder about the beauty of the ocean and the beach. But like you , Robert, I enjoy the rain and don’t like my house to be too bright. Middle Georgia is sitting under a high pressure dome. It is hot, humid, and hazy. Too bright. We are in drought too. I would love for us to have some rain.
I had a marvelous sense of wonder about the Christmas season as a child. I still feel glimmers of that when I watch an old Christmas special and think of my Christmas memories with family, Carol singing, worship, and the memories of my Maa-Maw’ old-fashioned Christmas tree and decorations.
I was very much a home-body, and spent so much time with my parents. I had friends and lots of sporting activities – but I traveled with my parents, camped, fished, just did many, many things with them. It seemed normal to me. I can see, now, how that gave me a very sheltered life and I was incredibly naive when I went to college. But – it was just what I knew.
Played tennis last evening – none of our four singles players were available, so I took the hit and played singles. I definitely am not a singles player, at the level I am currently at. I felt badly for my opponent, as she didn’t get much of a match. Three of our four doubles teams lost in a third set tiebreaker – so we are pretty much out of the playoff race, with half the season still to go. I was very spoiled last year when two of my teams made the playoffs. This allows Becky and I to firm up plans for going to Florida the end of July.
Dad, Don and I golfed today, and Becky rode along with us. We finished up fairly quickly, so got in a bit of card playing too. I am having dinner with my former student this evening – we have committed to doing this once a month.
