New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Wisdom kept to oneself is not truly wisdom; it’s merely a secret that dies along with its keeper. Wisdom becomes wisdom when it is imparted.

—William P. Brown, Sacred Tension: Embracing Dissonance and Dialogue in the Old Testament (Upper Room Books, 2025)

Today’s Question

Who has shared with you wisdom that deeply impacted your spiritual journey? How have you passed on that wisdom? Join the conversation.

Today’s Scripture

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
—James 1:5 (NIV)

Prayer for the Week

Loving God, thank you for entrusting us with the gift of your creation. Help us to honor the earth with humility and to reflect your love in all we do. Amen.

Something More

What if the contradictions within the Old Testament were not problems to be resolved but instead were essential to its deepest meaning? In Sacred Tension, biblical scholar William P. Brown invites us to consider the Old Testament as a wide-ranging dialogue in conversation with itself and with us. Now available here.

I believe there have at least a few people who have passed along wisdom that deeply impacted my spiritual journey. Parents, a youth pastor, the readings from devotionals, New Every Morning, most recently Bible/book study, and two pastors I am not easily able to determine if I have passed along
this wisdom. Currently my children reject it as foolishness. Still I believe. Thank You, Lord

Robert – you pass on your faith and your wisdom here to us all daily- thank you for that.
Another elder in my church no longer is able to attend church in person so we exchange letters weekly and these letters are a great source of encouragement and wisdom and strength for me in my spiritual journey- I’m so thankful for his guidance – he will be 90 this year and I am blessed to have him and his wife in my life as long time members of my church and long time friends as well. Thank God for our elders who share their wisdom and faith with us.
