New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Note:This week’s New Every Morning includes daily practices (instead of reflection questions) to follow the format of our featured title, Pauses for Pentecost, which offers 50 days of reflections based on a scripture theme and followed by a spiritual practice.

When we open our lives to the Holy Spirit, heaven comes to earth, beginning in and with us. The Spirit energizes our bodies, renews our minds, makes our hearts responsive, and gradually transforms our lives. We become aware of the huge difference between walking against the wind and having the wind at our backs. Let us therefore ask the Holy Spirit to blow out the stuffiness and staleness that may be present in our lives right now. Let us also imagine the Wind blowing through our lives, breathing into us a new freshness, cleansing our vision to see more clearly, and empowering us to live as Jesus would if he were in our place.

—Trevor Hudson, Pauses for Pentecost: 50 Words for Easter People (Upper Room Books, 2017)

Today’s Practice

Experiment today with an exercise of the imagination. Sit quietly and in the stillness imagine the Wind of God blowing into every part of your life. What might your life look like?
—Trevor Hudson, Pauses for Pentecost
Join the conversation.

Today’s Scripture

Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.
—Acts 2:2 (NIV)

Prayer for the Week

Holy Spirit, turn my life into a deep reservoir from which life-giving streams begin to flow toward others around me. Amen.

The Upper Room Chaplains’ Ministry campaign is currently underway. Each year, between Memorial Day and July 31, The Upper Room raises awareness about and funds for this donor-led outreach ministry, which distributes more than 270,000 copies of The Upper Room daily devotional guide annually to military, VA hospital, and prison chaplains. Support this ministry by giving today.

Crisp wearing this morning, no breeze, but feel the Holy Spirit coming this Sunday: Pentecost, Communion, and my birthday. Condo still on the market, but don’t expect a sale in this market, will revise plans and try again next year . It’s a new month, thank You, Lord!

I could certainly use a wind to blow through my life, cleansing me of angst and leaving a fresh and renewed spirit.
I had a good time at the Women’s “Bible Study” last night. It is much more a time of fellowship with not a Bible cracked. I had misunderstood what was meant when several of those who invited me said they “ate” in that I assumed they meant cookies and such. However, a smattering of finger food was proffered but I had eaten right before I left the house. Therefore I sat and drank some water while others at the table ate. I only hope it wasn’t awkward for those eating and it didn’t seem to be.
Prayers for Ally as she embarks on her new job, may it alleviate some of the financial stress. Prayers for Scout, may his health improve. I have a vet appointment for the kittens because all of the kitties have begun scooting their butts on the rug. They only take two pets per visit so I will take the kittens first. We had stool samples checked for worms, twice, and both were negative. Prayers for April, may God’s wind blow through her refreshing her spirit and her body. Prayers for Jill as she tends to last minute grading and fully moving into her new classroom, and out of her old one. Prayers for Lou and her daughter as they visit. Prayers for Rick and Scott. Prayers for Robert as he continues to come to terms with the realities of today’s housing market and responds accordingly.

This morning I sat in my dimly lit kitchen while Roger ate, with dawn breaking – and the serenity was wonderful. Spent time in Psalms 3, 4 and 5 – and just super encouraged by familiar passages, songs which came to mind, and an awareness of God’s provision and plan continuing in my life. I am anxious to move to more unscheduled mornings in the summer. Have talked dad into not playing golf crazy early. In the past, I haven’t even had time to run, but think this summer that might change, at least a good part of the time.
I am fully “out” of all my cabinets and closets and desk, but not “in” to my new classroom. Everything I have moved is on desks and countertops. Tomorrow – hopefully – all my stuff will be in my new room. I got my grading done this morning and all grades are entered. It is is wonderful feeling.
Will be stopping by the library on my way home. I had ordered a book and was notified it was at my local branch. When I stopped to get it – there was a sign on the door that the library was temporarily closed due to staffing issues. Same thing on Saturday. I am hoping they don’t send my reservation back, as I have been unable to pick it up. Then home, for the rest of the evening. Some storms may be moving in, but I have no plans. May take a walk, but maybe not.
An anonymous teacher left a catnip toy gift in my mailbox to give to Roger. He has a small fan following. My friend said I should do an Instagram page for him. Not happening.
Praying for your new endeavor, Ally, as well as for Scout. For Julie’s kittens too, that the issue will be resolved.

The song, “You are the wind beneath my wings”, immediately came to mind with our word for the day. There have been several times when the wind has indeed carried me through difficult times, so gently and with perfect timing. I am learning to open my mind to the Spirit and how awesome it is to have this power at work in my life.
Praying and answered prayers are sources of strength but the Spirit is powerful. Thank you Lord for all the gifts you lavish upon us!!
I am having a quiet time alone outside as my loved one is resting. I lift each of you up in prayer and May the Wind carry you always. Blessings to our NEM family,
