New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Jesus lives in the moment for the sake of what lasts forever; he invites us to focus on the now for the sake of the eternal. Focusing on everything else—all the tomorrows to come—only serves to get us lost in worry. As a result, we may be ready to answer Jesus’ question with a laundry list of reasons that we worry. For many of us, our worries are not nearly as fundamental as whether we will be able to eat or drink or have clothes to wear. Yet Jesus insists that God’s provision means that even when our future is uncertain with regard to these basic necessities, we still need not worry. The world may tell us that we must chase after everything we need and desire in life, but Jesus says that God already knows what we need and is ready to provide for us.

—Matthew Croasmun, Let Me Ask You a Question: Conversations with Jesus (Upper Room Books 2018)

Today’s Question

What things do you worry about the most? Join the conversation.

Today’s Scripture

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?”
—Matthew 6:25 (NRSV)

Prayer for the Week

Lord, help me know the difference between what you ask of me and what the world asks of me.
Submit your prayer to The Upper Room.

Something More

We often think of Jesus as someone with all the answers. But over and over in scripture, he asks questions, seeking to engage with people and genuinely interested in their responses. Author Matthew Croasmun invites us to enter into conversation with Jesus by answering the questions Jesus asks. Learn more about this week’s featured book, Let Me Ask You a Question.

Admittedly I worry about many minor details despite good efforts. It has been a hard transition to living alone and being in charge of everything, especially being the sole person to help my children as they only come to me when in need. I continue to pray that God will provide and protect me and my family.
Praying for all who come here today – may your worries be few and may the Lors continue to bless and keep you. He is near.

SO MANY THINGS. Yes, do not worry, so easy to say and hard to do. The list is endless. I have recognized that worry does nothing constructive and this has helped me to worry less. Now I would say I have fleeting thoughts of what is on the horizon and what is currently occurring and I try to just pray about the outcome. Worry is unproductive, so if I can I do something regarding that situation.
Prayers for Lou and her family, may God hold them all. Prayers for Ally and David’s health and finances. Prayers for Jill and Larry’s health and Larry’s inability to rest his body. A thought, Jill, have you asked why he does it or what he fears will happen if he stops. I’m sure you have an idea, but maybe if you get him to discuss itthat can add prespective. Just a thought. Prayers for Robert and Erich, Erich’s mental health and their relationship. Prayers for Marti and her staff.
Megan is home, though it was the middle of the noght so I will not see her until later. Yesterday was a stressful day, glad is behind me. Thank you for your prayers and may God bless all who visit here.

I worry about many things: the situation in Afghanistan, that we are back where we were last year regarding the pandemic, issues David and I have to work through right now with finances, disappointments in my job search, health issues. It all weighs heavily. Makes me not want to get up in the mornings sometimes. I do understand that worry is not productive, but life-long habits are hard to break. I ask Jesus to help me trust Him.
I haven’t felt well on and off for a few days. Last week, I ran fever and had chills and body aches. I went to the doctor yesterday and they have run out of vivid tests. The health department does testing, but are booked solid this week. Dr said I have some signs of a sinus infection, so he Rxed a Z-Pack. I’m really thankful for my supportive friends and our kitties. They are a comfort. We thank you for your prayers. Know that the things close to your heart are on my heart and in my prayers. I thank God for our online community. Blessings to all.

I used to worry much more, have become much less of a worryer due to increased commitment to God. Eliminating worry is very hard for humans, it seems part of our DNA. I see the orthodontist tomorrow, thankfully my escrow account sent a refund. It went to savings. My monthly payment went down! Thank You, Lord.
Yes, prayers and assistance for Afghans and Haitians. Reading your messages helps my prayer list be more specific, thank you! Hope 3rd vaccine doses come your way soon. The US will send more vaccine to the rest of the world in addition to the 3rd doses here. I’m thankful for that. Safety, good health, the resources needed for life, and praise and thanks for God’s blessings to all of you. Thank You, Lord!
