New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Today’s Scripture: Isaiah 42:1-7

In my role as a professor or leader in the church, it is my job to help others to see. My job is to teach others how to draw closer to God and their neighbor.

This text is a wake-up call reminding me … that we are light for others and also are in need of light ourselves, just as in a classroom one is simultaneously a teacher and a student. Titles and degrees do not exempt us from needing others and learning from them. We need others to be a light so that we can continue to grow and see things differently.

—F. Douglas Powe Jr., in The Upper Room Disciplines 2023: A Book of Daily Devotions (Upper Room Books, 2022)

Today’s Scripture

Prayer for the Week

All-seeing God, may our words and our actions help others to

Parents, Sunday school teachers, Confirmation teachers, pastors and youth pastors, fellow church members, small groups, and Bible/book study groups have all played a role in helping me along my spiritual journey. Yes, there are tough days when I feel down an out, but wonders never cease, there are new surprises, and I become new every morning. Thank You, Lord.
Resources that enable life continue, what a blessing, bills can be paid and money saved.
Prayers for Ally and David, Julie, Megan, and H, Jill, Becky, Larry, and Don, Lou and family. Hopes for the New Year are high, we have been through a lot. Others have been through worse. We need to hang together and in the Love of God we will live. Thank You, Lord.

The people who post here and the minister who taught my confirmation class. The current pastor and the Bible Study he conducts.
Yesterday was both great and horrible. Megan and I spent the day together and shopped as there were many things we needed. We also took my car through a car wash and we cleaned out the inside. However, when we got home, h threw a temper tantrum. He refuused to take his meds and actually lie on the floor like a child in full blown tantrum mode. We ignored him and he eventually took his meds and went to bed. I am on edge today wondering what he has in store for today.

My family are just a few: Mama, Daddy, my grandparents. Our pastor when I was in middle school and early high school. Sunday school teacher and youth leaders. Camp counselors. Uncles and Aunts. I realize I was very fortunate to have so many who loved and guided me. Many have gone to Glory. There will be a glad reunion one day.
David is being discharged tomorrow from hospital in Jacksonville FL. . I can’t remember if I posted that he had a severe UTI and hot gallbladder. I think I did. Anyway, he had surgery Saturday and is slated for discharge tomorrow. He will discharge to rehab in Macon GA and is being transported back via ambulance, as he was diverted out of state. I’m sort of numb right now. Thankful things went well. He is not happy about going to rehab, but he needs it, as his illness set him back in progress with therapy. He’s going to a good facility.
I’m very thankful for NEM and the fellowship we have. I pray 2023 will see God doing new things, as in Isaiah 43. Blessings to my friends here.
