Today’s Reflection
Hope has walls, even though sometimes our arms don’t seem long enough to reach them. But that’s when I think God stretches us, and when our fingertips brush up against the surface of hope, we find out that it’s soft in some places and hard in others. We find out that the walls of hope are textured and that leaning against them can be both comfortable and painful. Then the walls push out a little more and we’re ready for more stretching.

Once you have your minds ready for action and you are thinking clearly, place your hope completely on the grace that will be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed.

I don’t think I have experienced Hope as both comfortable and painful. Thankful for a wonderful worship service yesterday led by our district superintendent. It was special as my connection to Korea , the Korean Methodist Church, hearing hymn sung in Korean was renewed. Communion was celebrated. After the service pastor-parish met with him and we discussed many topics related to continuing ministry here at the Center Conway UMC. Long ago I was sent to Korea instead of Vietnam. That made a huge difference in my life. When an opportunity that return to Korea came, I went and stayed for three years, met and married my wife there, and our daughter was born there. Back in the US many years later we returned to worship at a Korean Methodist church attended by her childhood friends. She passed away two and a half months later, I became a member of that church and remained there for 10 years. I’m thankful for the time we were together. Life without her has not been the same. God has kept me going. Thank You, Lord.
Hope is painful because we do not know if our hopes will be dashed. Hope for me is not comfortable because just as it seems that hope has been fulfilled it is ripped away.
A boring and lonely birthday. My mom and I enjoyed a long phone chat. I found that applying heat to my leg muscle helps a great deal.
Prayers for Ally and her sister to gain access to their parents home and for Ally to find a means of income. Prayers for Roger and Jeremy. Prayers for the future of Robert’s church. Prayers for all who visit here.
It is significant where we place our hope. Simple daily hopes are often built upon/based on the actions and feelings of others. Our true hope must be foundationally set on what we are told in the Word, and in our Saviour. Hope we cling to must be not of this world. This can bring great comfort, yet the pain of waiting is real. God works with us, builds perseverance and gives us faithful examples to emulate.
Got dad to the airport early this morning. He texted me when I was getting ready for school, that the plane was delayed, due to an issue with the door. But he arrived safely in the Sunshine State and my sister was there to pick him up. This will be very good for him. And for my sister, too.
Both of my morning classes had assessments, so I got some grading done on some projects which I didn’t quite get through this weekend. I made some headway, but feeling much better after this morning’s progress.
hope can be painful when one hopes for something that doesn’t happen. It is hard to see God’s purpose in hope deferred. Hope can be comfortable in the knowledge that we rest in the Lord and the assurance that our hope is in the Lord.
No word yet from the real estate attorney we have contacted. This feels like a death, that the house where my sister and I grew up will no longer be ours and that there is a possibility we cannot retrieve those irreplaceable treasures. Nothing which is worth anything to anyone but us. Pictures, letters, other momentos. It is breaking my heart.
Robert, thank you for sharing about your wife and your feelings over her loss. Praying for you today. Julie, I’m glad you had a nice talk with your mom and pray that your next birthday will be better. Glad the heat is helping your leg. Prayers that you heal quickly. Jill, praying that Larry enjoys his time with Becky in Florida. Prayers continue for Roger. Thanks to everyone for your prayers.
Love to all.
