New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

In Celtic spiritual traditions, the fluidity of time extends far beyond the stories of the saints. We encounter it, for instance, in the notion of thin places: spaces where the veil between worlds becomes transparent, and heaven and earth meet. … Thin places remind us that we travel in the presence of the communion of saints and in the company of the God who, in the person of Jesus, intersected and inhabited time. In taking flesh, God opened wide to time, to the effects of its passing, to the weight of chronology. Yet this God dwells also beyond time. It is a mystery, this simultaneous entering and shedding that God does with time. In the thin places, we are given a glimpse.

Today’s Scripture

But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day.

As the author points out – it is a Devine mystery- God is bigger than anything we can ever imagine – His Love bigger than anything we can ever imagine- Marcy would give us a hymn here – and I think of Love Devine all Love excelling joy from heaven to earth come down. Time, space become meaningless I guess. Concepts hard for me
to imagine – a true mystery. Thank you God for Your great Love that is so deep and so wide. Thank you for your protection – I awoke very early to thunderstorm warnings and 60mph wind gusts that were frightening- I got my pup and came downstairs – one hour later and the sky is turning a beautiful pink- the storms have quickly passed by with no apparent damage.
    Thank God.
Thankful for all of you and the prayers offered up here – God be with you and His amazing love surround each of you today.

Wow, as it is written, this is a mystery that my mere human brain has trouble grasping. But it reveals to me God’s permanence, He was present before time and space. He is prenent still with all of us. He is forever and always.
I have found out where h goes every day. He is going to adult daycare! There is a senior center in the mall near our home and they have classes, including a Parkinson’s exercise class, and serve lunch. First adult diapers and now adult daycare. I shake my head in wonder that he thinks he can continue to live on his own as the Parkinson’s progresses.
Prayers of gratitude for Ally and David’s being greatly blessed somehow yesterday, may their health and finances improve. Prayers for Jill, Larry and Becky as they navigate the new dimensions of their relationships. Perhaps Jill you could say that you do or don’t want to do whatever it is that you are struggling with Larry over. It would not have been umreasonable to claim that you felt you may have caught his cold. God understands when we fib to prtect the health and safety of others, I believe. Prayers for Robert, for safe travel, for happy reunions and visits, and for wisdom when dealing with Erich. Prayers for Marti and her staff who toil hard on our behalf. Thank you for your prayers and God bless all who come here today.

My logical brain cannot grasp God’s perspective on time, or many other things. It used to lead to circling around rabbit holes and frustration. I wouldn’t say I have reached the point of awe – maybe that is not the goal. But I believe I have come to accept that it is mystery, beyond me and part of His magnificence.
A quiet day, without bike riding or golf – time to be at home with Roger and just kick back. I picked up some lump crab – and soon will be heading to my friend’s – she is going to make crab cakes for us for dinner. She is so hungry for crab. When we first became friends, we used to vacation each summer, as soon as school was out, to Assateauge Island in Maryland. We camped out in the state park right on the shore. She, too, was a teacher and it was a great way to decompress immediately after school ended. Several times each trip – we would head into town (Ocean City) and she would pick crabs. We talked about going this year – but I think we are both too old to be camping on the beach. Sand everywhere, for a week. I would still do it, but prefer to do what we do now – rent a house or condo by the beach.
Tomorrow looks to be a bit rainy – so not sure golf will happen tomorrow. It is fine with me, as we are playing Friday. And then there is a golf outing for my school’s athletic program on Saturday.

The concept of eternity would be frightening if I were not certain that God’s purposes are true and right. The thin places, as the author states, offer a glimpse into heaven, where one day is like a thousand years. It is too much for my mortal mind to grasp, but I love the concept of traveling in the presence of the communion of the saints.
