Today’s Reflection
Even when you feel tempted to question God’s wisdom for leaving you on the earth for so long, especially if you have chronic health issues or are experiencing loss, remind yourself that as one of God’s senior saints, you have been given a special assignment.
So what is your special assignment? Who does God want you to influence with your late years? How can you use your gifts and talents in different ways than ever before? In late life, you are called to be a witness to God’s grace and faithfulness.
—Missy Buchanan, From Dry Bones to Living Hope: Embracing God’s Faithfulness in Late Life (Upper Room Books, 2021)

Today’s Scripture
Even to old age and gray hairs,
O God, do not forsake me,
until I proclaim your might
to all the generations to come.

On the home front I’m continuing an assignment that began with the birth of my son, helping him be ready to sustain himself, At church I serve on the worship team and pastor-parish committee working to keep church alive. Thankfully progress is being made in all areas. ThankYou, Lord.
Off to see my daughter and granddaughters on Wednesday, Alternating periods of cold and warm, with the warm comes rain, it seems like winter is coming to an end. Good progress on the East Swanton station mock-up. Prayers for continued healing, Julie, finding the right condo in FL for Larry, well-being for Ally & David, good results for Roger, less hectic days at Jill’s school. Thank You,
Lord.
Being a mother to Megan . But on the religious front, due to my illness I am no longer able to go to church.
Megan and i did go out yesterday. We celebrated my birthday with a takeout meal for me from one of my favorite restaurants. We shopped and then went to a movie. I was sore by the end and am still sore today. My stomach is getting worse also.
Prayers for Ally and David and Jeremy, for health and resolution of the house issue and improved finances. Prayers for Jill’s week at school and Roger’s health. Prayers for Robert’s church, his house hunting and his travel this week. Prayers for Lou and her family. Thank you for your prayers and may God bless all who visit here.
I have a hard time picturing myself as a senior. I do have gifts God can still use and I realized that I haven’t asked God how I should make use of them for God in these different times. Lord, give me ears to hear what You have to say to me. Thanks to all for your prayers. Robert, praying traveling mercies for you as you visit your daughter. Prayers for the type of housing you and Erich need and for his future. Praying also for your church and it’s ministries. Julie, I pray that you experience restoration of health and can resume some activities meaningful to you soon. Prayers for you and Megan and for legal issues. Hope your kitties are well. Prayers that Jill’s school days become less hectic and that she finds relaxation and renewal through her favorite activities. Prayers for sale of Larry’s condo and move to Florida. Prayers for little Roger’s health.
I pray for our service personnel who may be deployed to Europe soon and that a peaceful resolution is possible for the Ukraine/Russia situation that protects Ukraine’s sovereignty. I pray for the cause of democracy and for climate change policies that will protect God’s creation. I lift up other causes of peace and justice. I pray that God will help us to connect in meaningful ways to Him and to others. Blessings to all.
Not sure what my “late years” in life will look like. Trying to be financially vigilant so I will be able to continue to play tennis and golf, as well as some travel, once I reach retirement. Grateful my dad got me into investing relatively early in my career. For now – my “assignment” is to care for dad, to see to his needs and help him enjoy – to the extent he can – his time which remains. I hope to be active in volunteerism when I retire, but not in an education setting. I vow to not return to the building, once I retire. A few of my retired colleagues are back now as substitute teachers. That will not be me.
Beautiful, radiant sunshine today. Didn’t take the bite out of the cold, but wonderful to see out my classroom window. Grateful to be home after school and in for the night.
A good conversation with dad on the way home. He and my sister and I will sit down and talk once they get back in town. Just want to get an idea of what she and her husband are thinking regarding housing, once dad passes. I can’t imagine my brother-in-law is just going to sell the place dad is buying and move back to Florida full time. I am not looking for concrete answers – just would like to know what their thoughts are. My sister can “get her hackles up” as dad says…so will have to be careful. She can be the nicest, sweetest person. But, when she gets defensive – she goes from 1 to 100 in no time. Will be prayerful about that upcoming conversation.
I thank my God for all He has given to me in this life that now appears to be shorter but hopeful that His love, care and compassion lead me into every new day. I am grateful for the time I have given to our church and community as a Deacon and privileged to have the team of loving parishioners who work, live, pray and love alongside me. This Christ, This loving God shows us that we are never alone, we are here to support one another on this very short journey. And when I see and hear of friends (and strangers) who are suffering in such a greater way, I thank my God that I can be there for them in their pain and in their reaching out to me as well. For it is in giving that we receive. It is in showing our love and compassion for others that we also receive. I pray for all those who are in a “gap” of any kind; for our mentally ill granddaughter, for our sons who work so hard to provide the basics of life, for my husband whose work is demanding but inspiring to others, for all who walk this life with confidence in God’s immesureable love and care for every hair on our heads. May God’s presence be among you and abide within you today and always.
