New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

My friend and his wife were worse than heartbroken at the time. He didn’t know how they would survive the death, but he told me how they lived through it. At the funeral, people said to him over and over, “Tom, you know your faith will get you through this.” He stopped for a moment, looked at me, and then said, “Roberta, it was not my faith that got me through it. It was the faith of my friends.”

I have never forgotten this generous sharing of his painful story at a time I needed to hear it, a time when I was not sure I could believe in much of anything positive. That I have been saved by the faith of my friends I have found to be true again when my hope, energy, and, yes, faith have failed me.

I can honestly say that it has been my own faith that has seen me through the toughest times I’ve faced. Was there support? Yes, and I am thankful for it, but it was me who turned to God and found relief. Thank You, Lord.
May God’s wisdom and reason guide you as you vote.

I would go to church when mom was ill – and I would sit or stand there – listening to others sing, because I could not. Trusting them to pray, when I could not. Yes, I borrowed their faith, because mine seemed at bay. I hadn’t lost my faith – I just couldn’t activate it, for lack of a better way of stating it. Now, one of the friends whom I borrowed faith/prayer/singing from – is counting on me to do the same. Her mother received a cancer diagnosis this summer. She said she now fully understands how/why I just stood their during the singing, with my eyes closed.
Venturing into the new car market – trying to make a wise decision, and continue to have reliable transportation. Returned to a salesperson who has his own ongoing battle with cancer. His faith is strong. He sold me two cars in the past. A pleasant, non-stressful conversation today. Things and numbers to mull over.
No kids tomorrow – meetings all day. Hoping to get some work done.
Becky, Dad and Don come home next week.

When I was younger and a single parent, feeling very alone, there were times I needed the faith of others to bolster my faith. I feel I need that now, too. A favorite Bible verse is Roman’s 8:28, “All things work together for good…. ” I lean on that verse, praying for my daughter and grandson. Prayers for guidance. Prayers for the NEM family and all who stop by here today. Prayers peace on Election Day in the following days and weeks . Blessings.
