New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

The Bible functions as a spiritual mirror; it can show us what we present to the world in a spiritual sense. It can help us discern how to better love ourselves and show us where we need to make changes by bringing into focus our behaviors.

What we know now is a dim and partial knowing of ourselves. Despite years of therapy, great self-knowledge, spiritual gifts inventories, and a vocabulary for every struggle known to humankind, we can only know ourselves in part. But while we sit with a messy and incomplete knowledge of ourselves, God knows us completely. God gives us relationships for additional perspectives. God gives us the Bible as a spiritual mirror for guidance. We can take an honest look in the mirror, take feedback from others, and look for guidance in God’s Word.

—Angela D. Schaffner, Revealed: What the Bible Can Teach You About Yourself (Upper Room Books, 2018)

Today’s Scripture

For now we see only a reflection, as in a mirror, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known.
—1 Corinthians 13:12 (NRSV)

I hope that as I have meditated on God’s word, that I have become more aware of who God is, and of God’s work in my life and in the lives of others. I hope I am better able to see the needs of others and be more in tune to the Spirit’s prompting.
Yesterday’s question about showing compassion to ourselves: I have opportunities for growth in this area. I do go to therapy, but wish bathe little things I used to do for myself, like getting pedicures, was possible right now. I need to see the eye doctor. I have some changes in my vision that shouldn’t be happening. I have to find a way to get some insurance so I can care for myself. I ask for your prayers.

The Bible reveals to me just how desperately I need a Saviour. How dependent I am upon The Spirit – to do transformational work in my life, which I am completely unable to do. The Bible leads me to surrender…my confidence, my abilities, my worldly aspirations.
The Bible also reveals to me the importance of gratitude and lamentation. Quite possibly two opposite ends of the spectrum, yet both incredibly incremental in authentic worship.
Speaking of which – church this morning was quite good. I attended both churches, and found each moving in their own ways.
Tried out a new coffee shop, quite near my house, on the way home. While it is very close, it is not the direction I travel in most circumstances. Will definitely be back, though.
Did some cleaning up in my flower beds and a bit of dandelion ridding in my yard. Also got in a walk – as the rain is imminent. Will settle in and watch golf and basketball, and tie up a few loose ends in preparation to heading back to school tomorrow.

I’m calmer, more caring, compassionate, and patient. My feathers aren’t so easily ruffled. I’m writing this Monday morning. Yesterday was a wonderful day with worship, fellowship, and then a luncheon with our coordinating pastor. I wasn’t home until 3:30 in the afternoon. Erich has found replacement appliances and we’ll check things over and then order them.Am working on removal of the old appliances. Will meet a friend today to discuss help.
Glad to read posts by Ally and Jill. Prayers for your health needs Ally and David’s physical therapy progress.
Prayers for Jill’s multifaceted caring, sharing, helping for and with others. There must be good coffee at the new coffeehouse.
Rain expected all day here. Haven’t had rain in a while. Prayers for those receiving rain that is causing floods.
Prayers too for the many issues causing division in our country.. This is a very stressful time for all. Thank You, Lord for the blessings of the day.
