Today’s Reflection
A few decades ago, I was experiencing a growing feeling that I should tithe. I’m sure it came about because of my increased gratitude toward God for what God had done for me. But how would I go from throwing a few dollars in the collection plate each week to giving 10% of my income? It seemed impossible. I thought, If I give 1 percent this year and increase my giving by 1 percent each year, in ten years I will be tithing. That was my plan. So, the first year I gave 1 percent. The next year when I was “scheduled” to give 2 percent, I thought, I can give 3 percent. The following year I thought, I want to increase my giving to 6 percent. In the fourth year, I took the plunge and gladly started giving 10 percent. What I originally thought would take ten years took only four years.

Tithing has made me carefully consider where to distribute my money, other than the church. I look carefully for ministries in the area, as well as spontaneous opportunities to assist. My church, about a year ago, asked for pledges to do improvements to our building. We were to asked to consider pledges for last year, this year and next year.
Not only do I have a new air conditioner, I have a new hot water heater as well. I called the plumbing company in the afternoon – and they surprisingly had an opening – and were out within an hour replacing my hot water heater. So, I have hot water and cool air. The kittens were beside themselves, but seem to be better this morning. Sitting in windows, enjoying the fresh air.
So members of my tennis team from last year were playing a match at a country club by my school. Others came and watched the match. Country club lifestyle is something outside of my wheelhouse. Interesting to just sit back and observe. After the match, we were all sitting around for a bit – and some of them were talking about golfing today. They needed a fourth and I kinda volunteered myself. So – I am golfing with the lady I partnered with at post season last year, her husband and another lady whom I have known from tennis for many years. It is supposed to be a beautiful day – and I am looking forward to it.
Need to get laundry done this morning, fertilize my flowers – and then enjoy the afternoon.
I don’t tithe. Money is a sore spot for me as I grew up dirt poor and then h financially abused me.
Shopping today with Megan and church tomorrow as I am on my own for the day.
