New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

After a storm, a thick blanket of damp leaves covers the ground. Until the leaves are raked, you cannot see the walkways. Likewise, aging makes seeing God’s path for your life difficult. When faced with questions such as, Should I stay in my home or move? or Should I move to this place or that place?, trust that God will make your paths known.

—Proverbs 3:5-6 (NRSV) A very important scripture for me.
My time, my life is nearing its end even though I don’t know when that will be. I’m trying to do what is most helpful for my son, Erich. We thought we were close to a single family home where he could
begin a business, but that fell through. He is appreciative that where we live now is a blessing. It’s affordable. Have to wait and see what develops.
CCUMC will have a guest pastor on November 7th. I’ll be the liturgist.
Rainy weather for the next few days, wind and rain will remove leaves.
All Saints and Reformation Sunday tomorrow. My family comes from a part of Germany not far from where Luther posted his 95 theses. One NY church I attended sang A Mighty Fortress is Our God in German remembering the German heritage of their church. Over time the childhood fun of trick or treat has turned to remembering those who passed away. Grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles, and my wife are in my thoughts. Time to see how NEM is doing.

I hope so because right now I could use all the help I can get. I was supposed to have a car to buy but the dealership sold it and now they are scrambling to find another. I don’t know what willultimately happen but I am in a panic and have been praying and praying. I will not be able to drive me car after the operation and this new car will allow me to continue to drive. Please pray for this as well as my surgery. I am in a constant state of worry.
Prayers for Ally and David’s health and finances, Jill’s pending review, Lou’s grieving, Robert and Erich’s relationship and Marti and her staff. Thank you for your prayers and may God bless all who visit here.

I don’t believe I am facing any difficult questions, and I am grateful. My friend, whose sister-in-law committed suicide 18 months ago, came over today to talk with another of my friends, who is a lay counselor. She left hopeful of having another courageous conversation with her brother to get serious counseling and to remain committed to it. His heart is shattered and he is ambivalent about everything. Every last thing. The only person he has a connection with is my friend – she gets all his raw grief and anger. And 10 months out of the year she is in Montana. She hurts so badly for him.
I had plenty of energy for tennis last night, but enough good tennis in me to pull out the tight match. I am just grateful it was a competitive match, worth my while to be up and playing. Tomorrow’s match should be a good one. My Sunday team is undefeated. Dad is coming to the match tomorrow, and will pick me up on the way.
I did no schoolwork today – and will be regretting it tomorrow. Along with church and tennis, I also have two google meets (zooms) scheduled with two of my classes. Will be grading the rest of the time. But grateful to not think of school today. Definitely doesn’t help in preparation towards my evaluation. But – the kids don’t have school Tuesday (election day) and we have teacher meetings – so hoping to have some time that day to do some work.
