New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

But as far as the Bible goes, again, there is room at the family table, in the family tree, for ambiguity, and for choice. Ruth chose Naomi, hitching a ride on her skirts to the Promised Land and into the genealogy of Jesus (see the book of Ruth; Matt. 1:5). Joseph chose to marry Mary instead of dismissing her quietly, as everyone in his family, from his mother to his maiden aunt, not to mention his bawdy uncle, must have advised him to do (see Matt. 1:18-21). For all that, when they came knocking at his door, Jesus made his own choice: “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” And pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers!” (Matt. 12:48-49)

Just as the quoted verse states, because I chose to believe I am now a daughter of God and sister of Jesus. Because I chose a life devouted to the fundamentals of faith delineated in the Bible I have a place at the feast that Jesus is preparing in heaven and I have a room in the house he said has many rooms.
The devotional today describes a workshop the author attended where they were asked to place themselves in the scene of the feeding of the five thousand. She described her thoughts and feelings and how her perspective changed as she actually experienced the story as it unfolded. This sounds like a valuable tool to gain additionall insight into passages of the Bible that have become familiar. I look forward to trying this myself in my quiet time.

The invitation I see is to remain hopeful, optimistic, and prayerful when considering other people – their situations and dilemmas. God will not give up on someone, and I certainly have no right to.
Don joined dad and I at golf this morning, and Becky rode along. We had a very nice day – lunch and ice cream following golf. Dad still has not gained all his strength back and he is going to change golf a little bit next week – so we are not playing two consecutive days in a row.
On the way home, we stopped and got dad a new cell phone – he was quite frustrated with his. After I dropped him off, I stopped by a store and picked up a few tops for school. Came home, worked out, showered and now will relax and hit the hay early.
Hopefully Robert has arrived safely home and he and Erich can have productive conversations about plans moving forward.
