New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

The strongest evidence for the Resurrection is the transformed lives of Jesus’ disciples. How else do we explain the sudden transformation that took place in their lives? Within days those frightened and grieving disciples are transformed into bold and courageous witnesses willing to die for their faith. Something most extraordinary must have taken place for this to have happened. The One whom they follow is raised from the grave, and they encounter him in a way that convinces them he is now living beyond crucifixion.

—Trevor Hudson, Pauses for Lent: 40 Words for 40 Days (Upper Room Books, 2015)

Today’s Scripture

“Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth,
who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here.
Look, there is the place they laid him.”
—Mark 16:6 (NRSV)

Prayer for the Week

Holy God, as I walk through this Holy Week, help me to remember all that Jesus experienced in the last week of his life. Guide me to remember his greatest sacrifice, and help me as I seek to follow Jesus. Thank you for your great love. Amen.

My faith has been strengthened. I grew up hearing, reading, learning about Jesus. I think over time my belief, faith, trust grew. Turning to God in the most traumatic moment of my life, committing to Jesus, and the subsequent path I have tried to follow has strengthened my faith. Bible and book study has broadened my understanding. Thank You, Lord.
A wonderful Easter sunrise service in front of church. A couple and their young daughter joined us and stayed for breakfast. 10 am worship was wonderful too, the church was beautiful with many plants and flowers. We had a larger community of faith.
Aleleuia! Christ is risen. Risen Indeed. The Easter card from The Upper Room was in my mailbox! Thank You!
May the Holy Spirit, Christ, the Lord, and God, the Father he will all of you now and always. Amen.

Not only is the Resurrection a promise of eternal life and spending eternity with the Lord, we can live as Easter people here in this world. We have victory, even when things don’t feel victorious. We can be certain that God is working and through God, we can be witnesses and help transform the world.

Christ’s resurrection makes transformation possible in my life. And, yes, Ally – I like that thought..living as Easter people. The kingdom is now and we are in the midst of it – and we must be light, we must be salt. In the midst of suffering and struggle, we must press on.
A beautiful sunny morning for Easter service – the warmth of the sun – so good. Time with family – it means so much to dad. We stayed a bit longer than usual – he was playing video games with his grandson.
Very much looking forward to a lazy week ahead.
