New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Note: This week’s New Every Morning reflections are structured differently to follow the format of our featured title Holy Listening, which offers 40 daily meditations with scripture verses for lectio divina, a yoga pose, a breath prayer, and reflection questions.

Consider how God has protected you on your journey. Where will you need God’s protection in the future? What decisions are you currently making in which you can ask for God’s protection? What part of your being desires protection today?

—Whitney R. Simpson, Holy Listening with Breath, Body, and the Spirit (Upper Room Books, 2016)

My Deliverer and my Protector – thank You, God. Author of my life, companion on my way. Increase my doubt when I waver, when my eyes wander. Thank You, Father – continue to lead me and teach me. I praise You for Your Peace.
Finally seeing some significant improvement in strength and energy. Thinking I may be up for a brief morning jog tomorrow. Dad and I are golfing this morning. No infection showed up in the cultures, but the antibiotics seem to be helping. Grateful.
Father – thank You for this day You have given us. May we rejoice and be glad.

I pray for God’s wisdom that enables everyone to protect themselves from the virus, that all withy medical needs have them fulfilled, and that every one comes to believe and thus is protected always. A very positive sustaining and full of growth Bible study yesterday. Beautiful weather again today. Temps will be going up and we’ll have some 90 degree days and then a stretch in the 80s. Always glad to hear of health improvements. Continued progress with my models, slow and steady gets the job done. Blessings to all from northern New England. Thank You, Lord.

I cry out for God to protect me. Please put me in your impenetrable fortress where you successfully protected King David from his enemies, dear Lord. Keep me just as strong and safe and victorious in life as you did him, my God. My heart cries for this continually.
Of course h continues to keep me in the dark regarding everything and I fear constantly for my financial health and overall well being. Chai has not eaten anything so far today. Please pray (or for Marcy continue to pray). Thank you.
Prayers for Jill and her wonderful regaining of strength and possible relief from her GI issues. I look forward to a new picture on facebook regarding the “golf tour?” you are having with your father.
Prayers for Marcy and Lucy Lou, may they continue to enjoy one another and share a love like no other. May Marcy receive health care and support soon and may the swelling abate.
Prayers for Robert and his sage words “slow and steady.” May we all remember your unwavering example of this.
Prayers for Ally and David, may both grow stronger and may Ally find relief with a new job.
Prayers for Andrea, April, BJ, Lou and Rick.
Prayers, thank you and good health dear UR one and all

Hello UR Family, David said to me this morning as I left for work that he wished I could stay home with him. I have been praying about my next step as you know, and looking for opportunities with more flexibility. Immediately after lunch, all transitional counselors were told that our program has been eliminated and we have been laid off as they are doing a reduction in force. Not the way I expected my prayer to be answered. I am a little in shock, but I’m at peace. I will file for unemployment and God will sustain us. I claim the God’s promise in Jeremiah 29:11: God’s plans for us are for good and not evil and to give us a hope and a future. This is certainly not the answer I was expecting, but I trust the Lord, because He is able. Know that I’m praying for all of you and lifting up your needs and concerns. Be blessed!

It is evening as I type. Another day of being outside and pulling the weeds in our development. Interesting time as I was about my business of helping the gardener who has had several unfortunate happenings that have held him up from fulfilling his commitments. Anyway, I love to be outside, so the cool, wet days are perfect for ridding our lawns of weeds that will soon take over if not removed. While there are several, the ones I am most concerned about are the clover and alfalfa. These plants lay down branches from their center stem. These branches cover the grass and smother it from getting light, thus it dies underneath and the weed flourishes on top. To pull them, I need to disengage the branches from their hold on the grass, trace them to the root, and when all of them are dislodged, pull them out together so that the root comes out intact. When I do this process, you can hardly notice that the root’s hole is there, the grass covers it and is ready to continue growing. If I would have waited a few more days, the branches of the weeds would have weakened the grass, and more days would have caused it to go dormant and then die. While I am out weeding, I have had interesting comments: are you “picking” weeds?, isn’t that the gardener’s job?, what are you doing? Why are you doing that? I have thought about how these weeds relate to lies/sin and spreading the Good News.
First weeds. They start out small and then they grow and overcome. According to the standard list, they are pride, greed, wrath, envy, lust, gluttony, and sloth. As I pull them, I am reminded to “pull” them from my life also. Next, spreading the Good News. Actions speak louder than words. I am reminded to be a good example, so that people can see and believe.
Oh Ally, my hear goes out to you on the news of your pink slip. It is a shocking situation, I know. The day it happened, I had no idea what was happening, but those I worked with knew, and they guided me to understand. I had been thinking of a different job before this happened so when my pink slip happened, I saw it as direction from God and moved on with the job I had been thinking of. Somehow the pieces feel into place and within a few days we had moved from one coast to the other for a new job/location that we are planning to retire in. I pray that God will walk beside you today and always, whatever the future holds.
Julie, I pray for your and Megan’s protection everyday. Your days must be so long and uncertain. I pray for strength for you during this time and wisdom. Thank you for letting me know that my comments are helpful to you. I learn from your comments too, including knowledge about kitties, they are in such loving hands all the time.
I pray for protection for all of us from the coronavirus that causes COVID-19. As we hear of Ally and David’s experiences, I pray for complete recovery for David and strength for Ally. May scientists and healthcare providers discover cures and preventative vaccines for this new disease.
May the Lord bless you and keep you. May His face shine upon you and be gracious unto you. May His countenance be upon you and grant you peace. In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
