New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

COMPANY IS COMING, and you want the guest room to be perfect. To impress the professor, your paper needs to be perfect. For that promotion, this proposal had better be perfect. If we’re not careful, perfectionism can become a way of life, leaving us unable ever to settle for less than exactly right. This can create a burden that we can’t bear. While excellence is a commendable objective, perfection is God’s job.

—Wendy LeBolt, Made to Move: Knowing and Loving God Through Our Bodies (Upper Room Books, 2019)

Today’s Question

Do you feel responsible for some weight you are bearing alone? Have you asked God for help? Join the conversation.

Today’s Scripture

The Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her.”
—Luke 10:41-42 (NRSV)

The situation I am living with and how to remain safe, physically, emotionally and fiscally. This is the burden I shoulder alone …with God’s help and strength. Though I must admit it is difficult to feel Him sometimes. H is home again today which is difficult on me.

I am responsible for taking care of myself completely and helping my three children who still rely on me in many ways particularly the youngest. I am self employed so the burden is to keep my job going so that I can continue to take care of myself. I’ve had back issues and back surgery in the past several years and this weighs on me as I worry that if I have a set back I have no one to really be here for me as my family lives out of town. I have many friends but I am not a person who would ask for help so often I feel that it is just me. I know God loves me and I lean on his strength to see me through. With His help I get through each day. I am thankful to God for his mercy and grace.
It is bitterly cold this morning but I thank God for his provisions – a warm home with a new furnace I replaced last year. I am so grateful. Prayers for those without warm spaces this morning.
Prayers for Julie and her fears- grant her peace.
Prayers for the faithfulness of Robert and his love of his family.
Prayers for Jill and her vacation with family.
Prayers for Mary- I miss her positive voice here each day!
Prayers for Connie- I miss her songs!
Prayers for Rick, Andrea, Sara, April, Betsy, Marcy, BJ, Edy, and all who come here to pray.
Blessings on this day. The Lord is near.

Thank you, Julie, Lou, and Robert for your prayers. I so appreciate them.

This past month has been difficult, issues with my daughter related to my grandson, striking at my heart. It is a roller coaster but I hang on, knowing I need to be the ballast for my daughter. My grandson has had some health concerns. I ask for your prayers for all of us, and for my guidance as parent to a very difficult, cherished grown daughter.

I wish you all a Valentine’s Day secure in the awareness of God’s love, as well as the love that flows through the comments here. Julie, I pray for your well-being and safety and long for the day when you tell us you are out of the very stressful circumstances you live with. Robert, my prayers continue for you and Erich, for your health and support, for a successful business start for Erich. Lou, I pray for you, for emotional support, and for your young adult children as they find their way in life. Prayers for Jill, Connie, Marcy, Marcy, Betsy, Rick, Sara, and all who visit UR. Wishing all a blessed Valentine’s Day.

Happy Valentine’s Day! Yes, I do need to ask God for help. Of course I can’t do it all myself, there are needs beyond my power and ability only God can handle. I’m grateful for the energy, wisdom, and strength God gave me so I can do my part. Have fun, Julie, with your radio station prize. God’s peace and healing to you. Best wishes for Jill and Larry’ s visit in Florida , a safe and successful mission trip for Mary,
recovery, support, and well-being for Marcy, healing for Connie, Rusty and K, strengthened family ties for Andrea, and God’s peace to April, Edy, Lou and all the UR family. Lord guide each one of us through the decisions we have to make each day. Thank You, Lord.

    Happy Valentine’s Day to All!!
I do believe I have been guilty of being a perfectionist in all I have done, at work and family. But since retiring, I am changing my ways and it feels so liberating to just do it the best I can, even if not perfect. I started to notice what I was doing when I started to work with younger co-workers. At first I did not like what I saw….they quit work when they had worked 8 hours. They did not work on the weekend. They took time for family. And the work waited for them to complete when they returned to work. As a perfectionist, I would work on the weekends so that I was all-ready when Monday morning arrived. Oh, how unnecessary that was and what stress it did give me. So I applaud my kids that take their vacation hours/days and enjoy themselves, turn off their cell phones and do not answer emails until they are working on the clock!! Maybe they are trying something different than what their parents did when they were young, or maybe they figured it out themselves. Whatever, I encourage them to continue to make time-off what it is, time off!
I think of each of you and the struggles in your lives. May you feel God’s hand upon your shoulder to guide you. We are wrapping up this time babysitting and although it is hard to go, we know that it is time. I have had wonderful times to just sit and play and marvel at young ones growing up and learning for the first time. Their parents are trying to do their best with organic foods, calm voices, etc. I think of you often Andrea as you are watching and helping with your Grandson. May you know that God loves what you are doing for His little one and his parents. It takes a family/community to raise a child. I am so glad you have a Valentine’s present today Julie and Megan. Have fun!!
I pray for you Lou as you support your children and juggle everything going on with your life. May Robert continue to support Enrich. May Jill and her family be having a wonderful time together in sunny Florida. I too miss the posts from others and continue to hold them in my prayers.
As Marcy would always end, the greatest of these is love. Blessings dear UR family on this Valentine’s Day.
