New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

I never got confirmed in the Catholic Church or in any church for that matter. I never got the chance to say yes or no to active duty. I never sat through Confirmation classes where teachers explained the faith to me or gave me some inkling about what it meant to be a so-called “new creation,” what it meant for my identity both in and out of the church. No one ever told me that church community was important, that crossing the threshold into new life with God had anything to do with anyone else but me. In my interpretation, I was still the center of the universe. Even if it was God’s.

Today’s Scripture

So then, if anyone is in Christ, that person is part of the new creation. The old things have gone away, and look, new things have arrived!

Hmmm – an interesting question. I am not sure I have a response.
I know that these past several months, the desire remains strong to walk alongside someone who is struggling with some of the same things I did, as mom suffered with her diagnosis. God sent two wonderful people into my life – at the time of my diagnosis, and shortly after mom’s diagnosis. These people were lifelines and their ongoing impact cannot be measured. I keep praying that God will lead me into someone’s life – so that I can be that lifeline to them. But then I step back, and ask myself – is God just asking me to be patient, and to remain a steady, sure presence to dad. And to be content with this. Our small group is studying David, in 1 Samuel and into 2 Samuel. This past week we looked at Jonathan’s devotion to David. Our group leader has been a Jonathan to me these past three years. It was through her that I found my first companion, with a diagnosis the same as mine. My Jonathan led me to my current church, where I learned of the cancer support group and was able to connect with counseling. She wiped away many tears and accompanied me to the hope and remembrance service last December. I will trust God to make known to me when it is my time to be a Jonathan. Father, grow patience in me, and an ability to rest in where You have me now. May my desires be tempered with wisdom and discernment, to abide now, to be aware of safety in these current times.
A simple dinner of Thai takeout with my friend, a walk with her dogs – something which has occurred so often. Yet – yesterday – it was incredibly uplifting. So other, as far as not involving time in front of a screen. Grateful for “normal” things which lift my spirit.

I believe I am a new creation, people, both family and students, said I was changed way back when it happened. For the years until I retired I understood God put me with my students. I was with Mom and Dad, from that time, through their passing, and with my children, despite their disbelief, from then to now. The UR family and church have collectively been my spiritual support. I’ve only had a one-on-one advisor for a very brief but impactful time.

I acknowledge that Enuma Okoro has a deep spiritual faith. I have a hard time understanding her experience.

Breakfast with the pastor and church friends this morning, a great time of sharing. This past Tuesday Bible study dealt with the question, are babies born with sin. I don’t believe so, but as humans we certainly do sin. Mary, Jesus’ mother, is next, followed by a look at different Christian denominations. Our Bible study is called Burning Questions of Faith. Questions are generated by the group members.

God’s sustaining peace, love, mercy, and grace be with you all now and always. Thank You, Lord , for Your ever presence.

I did get confirned in the Episcopalian church and attended confirmation classes. It was just my best friend and myself in the class and we were good friends with the Father who was quite young. It was nothing like “normal” confirmation classes. Two lessons stand out. First he took us into the church and showed us how the very architecture referenced the Lord’s words and explained the significance of the various items in the church and used in worship. The other was when he placed a rock in front of us and told us to pray for it because if we could pray for a rock we could pray for anything. I remember feeling very changed by the experience of intimate Christian instruction from someone I saw as both pious and down to earth. My faith and my relationship with God grew and was transformed and still does both now.
Prayers for Jill, may God give her patience and contentment in her current times with her father.
Prayers for Robert and his unbelieving children, may they follow his example and learn from him.
Prayers for Ally, may God give her strength and forbearance as she tries to tackle all the added responsibilities at work. I thank you for your prayers for Tazzie. Prayers for David as he continues to deal with lingering health issues. Prayers for Holly and her family as they mourn the passing of Mr Pete.
Prayers for Marcy and may she be well today.
Tazzie seems not as well as yesterday but not as sick as he was earlier this week. I worry about him at his advanced age. The little minions continue to run and tear through the house. They are trying my patience with their shenanigans.
Prayers, thank you and stay well UR

I have been pondering the question all morning. Isaiah 43:19 came to mind: “See, I’m doing a new thing!” What new things is God doing in my life through the church and outside the church? Through those things, how is God reshaping me? I do know that events in the world over the last years have shaped who I have become. The person I have become actually led me to the church where David and I worship. I love to do missions and outreach: I feel it is my calling as a Christ-follower. I love singing in the choir and occasionally directing the choir or sitting in for the regular pianist. While I love doing those things, part of me is afraid that others will think that I think it is about me. Being a new creation helps me to over come those thoughts. Outside the church, my work has been an outflowing of being a new creation in Christ. It gives me the boldness to help the guys on my caseload through my skillset. Through the strength I receive from Christ as His creation, I am able to do what he calls me to do as a wife, a sister, a musician, as a counselor, as a friend, as a person who tried to help make our community a better place. I don’t always measure up, so I’m working on extending grace to my self. Thank You Lord, for Your grace!
Thank you for continue prayers as David and I and my potential business partner seek God’s guidance and wisdom,
Jill, I know God is using you to minister to Larry, your students, and friends. Praying as you seek God’s wisdom and leading. Robert, praying for your children, that they will come to know God. This book is different from any we’ve read from, for sure. Julie, thanks for sharing the story about the rock. That is an awesome way to illustrate the power of prayer. Prayers continue for little Tazzie. Kittens are a handful. So full of energy. Thanks for your prayers for my friend and her family. It was a tough loss. I pray for our regulars, that they are all well. I pray we all seek God about our roles and our callings. Be Blessed!
