New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Children will dress up tonight as pirates, princesses, and superheroes. As darkness comes, jack-o’-lanterns and luminaries will shine on porches and sidewalks. You too can bring light and joy to a dark and weary world. Live your life as a light that shows others the way to Christ.

—Missy Buchanan, Spirit Boosters for the Journey of Aging: 366 Devotions (Upper Room Books, 2016)

I’m not the best at letting my light shine. Perhaps the best way to let one’s light shine is to be a Christ-like presence to others. My daddy used to say that embodying the presence of Christ is the best kind of witness. I try to be an encouragement to others and treat others in a Christ-like manner. It is not always easy, but I try to extend grace to others and to myself and pray for those I have judged and those who judge me.
David’s appointment with the urologist is Tuesday. He Is very nervous and broke down last night. He has been through so much. His daughter’s wedding is in 2 weeks. Neither of us are looking forward to interacting with her mother. It is so hurtful that he has not been asked to participate. Please pray for us.
Julie, I’ve added you to our church prayer list and my home church’s prayer chain. I pray you will feel God’s peace as you face surgery. Jill, prayers as you endeavor to teach your students and deal with your tasks. Many prayers as you get ready for your review. Robert, praying that you can find a house which meets your needs and for your church laity as you lead. April, thank you for your insights into the readings this week.
Prayers we connect with the Almighty this week and stay safe. Blessings to all.

I don’t know that I shined a light for anyone today. It was good to be in church and had some good interactions. There was a “sprinkle” (as opposed to a shower) for a member of our small group who had a baby over the summer. I did not stay for it as my team’s tennis match was early afternoon, as opposed to the evening. I left my gift in the room and spoke to one of our leaders. I hope they had a joyful time together.
Tennis was great fun – wonderful competition and my partner and I played very well together today. She is such an encouragement to play with, as she is not intimidated and never backs down. When she makes an error, it just increases her intensity and focus. It is the best we have played this Fall.
Dad came to the match and then he came back to watch the dreadful Browns lose to their rivals. He gets so frustrated with them. They are underperforming this year. As the saying goes…”Same old Browns”.
Ally – praying for David and the appointment on Tuesday. Also, the wedding.
Hard to believe it is November. The weather is trying to convince me…but, hard to believe.
