New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

I believe that being a part of the church means giving up a sense of ownership of anything and any sense of individual rights, because ultimately it’s about love of the other and taking on the servant posture of a crucified Christ. Though there’s that minor detail of how we can’t really love “the other” until we learn to love ourselves in a way that mirrors the reality of being made in the image of God. It’s scary and definitely not easy. But that’s what Christ asks us to do.

Time in the stillness of the morning, getting into His Word, pondering and praying, centering myself for the day. Also, remembering how I used to be…reminding myself that I can easily slip into criticalness…and trying to be mindful of being compassionate and present.
I have enjoyed this week’s sharings from Enuma Okoro’s book. She has a book of Advent Devotionals – I would recommend. Julie – would be interested in your thoughts once you have received and read this book. Hope little Tazzie gets to feeling better.

A hymn for today’s devotional scripture:
    Matthew 22:39

    Love Your Neighbor

    Verse 1]
    Bad news everywhere
Broken hearts in need of prayer
But there’s hope in His grace
And together we can give it away

    [Verse 2]
    Why do we hesitate?
One day might be too late
We’ve got to share the gospel from our hearts
‘Cause there’s no better place to start, oh

    [Chorus]
    Love your neighbor
    Love your neighbor as yourself
We’ve got to love one another
Oh, love your neighbor as yourself

    [Verse 3]
Come on Church, let’s change the game
Show the power in Jesus’ name
Love the lost and the hurtful too
Remember who is living in you, oh

Today’s reflection from Enuma Okoro was the easiest for me to deal with, understand. I think she is far ahead of me in her understanding and faith. My hobby is surely a way I “love” myself. I try to help others as I am able. God knows what I am doing,

ZOOM worship this morning, we have been following the Israelites on their journey from Egypt toward the Promised Land likening it to our journey through the pandemic.

I’m not so familiar with the many Christian praise bands, but sense, that some of the lyrics from Marcy are from these groups. Regardless, the lyrics are very good and helpful.

Train wise a big discussion about a New Haven sleeper being turned on the St. Albans turntable in 1955. This sleeper ran on the Vermonter and allowed people to connect to the Montrealer/ Washingtonian. I never saw the Vermonter. I lived north of St. Albans where it originated and terminated. There were New Haven , Canadian National, Boston and Maine, and Pennsylvania railroad cars that went through Swanton.

Hope Tazzie recovers soon and that everyone’s pet(s) are doing well. They are a great blessing.
