New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

I was gracefully reminded of the need for liturgy even when I didn’t feel like going to church, and that habits shape us even when we don’t recognize the transformation taking place. Trying to live a liturgical life, one that honors life’s earnest rhythms of celebrating joy, painful longing, and ordinary grace takes courage because it calls us from our little worlds to believe that we are not at the center. The reality is that our woes and troubles are not the end of things. Christ is the end of things, and Christ has released us from the burden of believing we call the shots in life.

Today’s Scripture

As servants of God, live as free people, yet do not use your freedom as a pretext for evil. Honor everyone. Love the family of believers. Fear God. Honor the emperor.
—1 Peter 2:16-17 (NRSV)

Prayer for the Week

God of hope, when we reach out to you with our dreams and our confessions, may we feel you reaching back out to us. Nourish our spirits, and nudge us to incorporate you into the rhythm of our days. Amen. Submit your prayer to The Upper Room.

Using this definition of liturgy, a form or formulary according to which public religious worship, especially Christian worship, is conducted,, I know that the different kinds of prayer, the message, offering, confession and forgiveness give focus on God from whom all blessings flow. God is worshipped. God is our creator, sent His son Jesus to save us when we went or were led away, and it is the wish of every believer to be at home with them when our earthly life is done, Thank You, Lord.
Liturgy has a goal, a purpose to bring us and keep us close to God.

This was helpful- our woes and problems are not the end of things -Christ is the end of things. Thankful for this reminder-
Grateful for reminders that help us refocus and lean into God. Thankful for the regular postings here which I continue to follow daily. Thankful for worship today and I pray that I maintain my focus during the week ahead.
Thank you Lord for leading us.

My perspective of liturgy is that it is very methodical, thematic and ritualistic. My daily life mimics this, I think, in that my routine is very predictable and it is where my comfort is.
I, too, Lou – found that reminder very welcome…hardships don’t have to be the end, they can be the beginning of something new, ordained by our Father – if we are willing to let Him shape us. Yes – He is the beginning and end of all things.
Wonderful to be in church, still thoroughly enjoying the sparse attendance and space in the first service. It seems simple and holy and I appreciate it.
Went to my friend’s for lunch, discussion of a book and time with her dogs. Home now to do schoolwork. Have enough to keep me busy the remainder of the day.
Quite chilly here and a bit more snow than the dusting predicted. Was able to run outside this morning. The next few mornings look like single digits, so I will not be out.
Blessings for the upcoming week. May we look for God in new places and receive His daily portion of grace.

I feel I need to start off with yesterday’s question about permission. I couldn’t answer yesterday. This morning I asked God to show me. I need permission to not feel guilty when I feel I don’t follow through with things or engage in spiritual practices, don’t do things which are hard, like forgiveness. I need to extend myself grace rather than beat myself up.
Liturgy reminds me of order and helps bring order to my disorder. I love that Christians all over the planet engage in the prayers, Holy Communion, and the common lectionary scriptures together. I love that God is working in my heart and the hearts of others through liturgy. It gives us a connection with Christians who have joined the Church Triumphant and highlights the thin places where heaven feels near.
Thanks to all for your prayers for my family and me. Know that we pray for you all. Blessings.
