New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Our souls are—or our spiritual growth is—like a tree. Imagine a circle on the ground. Within this space, the tree of our soul grows. The width of the circle is the knowledge of ourselves and the depth of the circle is our knowledge of God. With sufficient knowledge of self and God, the good soil of humility fills this space and the roots of love take hold.

—Christopher Maricle, Deeply Rooted: Knowing Self, Growing in God (Upper Room Books, 2016)

Today’s Scripture

They are like a tree replanted by streams of water,
which bears fruit at just the right time
and whose leaves don’t fade.
Whatever they do succeeds.

—Psalm 1:3 (CEB)

Prayer for the Week

God, give me the humility to know that I am a growing work in progress. Give me grace and understanding to see the growth in those around me. Amen.

    Reading and studying the Bible.
It is snowing! It is snowing hard here. And I am currently having an argument with h because he wants to go out in this to work on the lawn mower. He told me this is jail…because I won’t let him go out in the snow to mow the lawn and work on the lawn mower. Welcome to my Monday.

What’s the worse that can happen if he does? Admittedly I do not know all the facts. He may discover that you are right. Can you get in trouble legally if he goes outside in the snow?

He fell in the yard yesterday and cut his leg.
There was no snow or rain and he fell.
So he could slip in the snow and get hurt again.

No easy solution, despite H’s dementia demand, he must be kept safe. I’ve witnessed this situation before. It’s very frustrating.. Be safe! You can’t lift him if he were to fall.

One thing that helps me learn more about myself and God is to listen intently to others when they are sharing from the heart. Observing others’ actions can also cause me to be reflective and prayerful. Just taking the time to prayerfully consider what crosses my path, what He brings into my life. I am pretty sure we can learn a lot by just being observant. This must be coupled with time in His Word and seeking the Spirit’s guidance.
Unbeknownst to me before the school day started, was that today was “senior flick day”. Well, sure enough, two of my three classes today were senior classes and there were only two students in each. Ho hum…testing is two weeks from today, but most of my “test-ees” were at home taking the day off. I can do what I can do…and nothing more.
My friend brought over Thai following school and we went through the next chapter of our book. It is beautifully complementing my small group study on Luke.
