New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Step by step, prayer by prayer, I find my inner self settling as I travel a labyrinth. I usually become more aware of God’s presence along the way, but sometimes the world intrudes on this peaceful activity. It happened on a ninety-degree day under the scorching sun when gnats swarmed me at Bethany, a beautiful Roman Catholic retreat center in rural Pennsylvania, proving no spiritual practice is without its vexations. Like life, a labyrinth isn’t about reaching a goal as much as it is about each small step taken along the way.

Today’s Scripture

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us.

I recite the Serenity Prayer in its entirety every morning. Each day a different word or phrase moves me and spurs me to think about how this affects my life and if I am actually adhering to the concept. I assess what changes I can make to be more in line with the concept. Small steps to improve my attitude and actions and heart.
Meagn and I had a pleasant visit with my mother. She is still using a walker and quite anxious regarding her abilities. She was worried about getting into the vehicle and so I bought a small step stool which made it easier for her. She said it would not work and yet it solved the issue quite well. But that is my mother! More in next days.
Prayers for Ally and David and Marcy for improved health and finances. Prayers for Jill and her family and students, may all stay safe and well and connect in the unique manner necessary for each to be rewarded and enhanced by their encounters with one another. Prayers for safe travel and cherished times spent together for Lou and her mother and Robert and his daughter and granddaughters. rayers for Mari and her staff and may they be blessed for the work they do on our behalf. Thank you for your prayers and may God bless all who visit here.

At this very moment I don’t know what, if any, spiritual practices are helping me steps taken along the way. A good car ride with my son helped settle things down, saw some places we want to explore, bought needed supplies, and picked up a strawberry-rhubarb pie. I’m packed and ready for my trip, Hope I make the bus to train connection, have 20 minutes between arrival and departure.
Thankful for Julie’s good and helpful visit with her Mom. YES! “Prayers for Ally and David and Marcy for improved health and finances. I would say the spiritual practice which leads to gratitude of “the process” would be intentional/deliberate prayerful reflection on God’s faithfulness in and through my life. I have not been a consistent journaler, but have many notations in a “journal” – during intense times. Reflecting back on these, recalling how a specific passage of Scripture touched me – and then meditating on it anew. Just spending time in His presence for this specific reason.
Back in front of the classroom again today, and all 6 came back. They seem like really nice kids, what I can tell – through masks- and our hour time spent together. Then met dad and golfed north of where we live. We met my cousin and she brought a friend. No sun initially, but it eventually came out and was a pleasant day. Dad and I saw a little Italian restaurant on the way home – so we stopped for dinner. It is not common (at least not around here) to find meat ravioli on a menu…usually cheese ravioli. Well – they had it, so I got it – and even had some leftover to bring home. Dad brought part of his angel hair pasta home as well. Due to dinner, I did not make it in time to go to once a month small group book study. I am not really that disappointed, as I am not really into this book we are going through.
Will be early to bed tonight, as last night was a late one, and I didn’t sleep well.
The only thing on tap tomorrow is school in the morning. I am having a load of gravel (6 tons to be precise) delivered to my driveway in the afternoon. Hope the “driveway spread” will minimize the amount of raking I need to do. Also need to mow my “wild” grass – it is out of control following all the rain.
Prayers for Robert’s travels, making connections and time spent with dear ones.
