New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

As Barbara Brown Taylor warns, what threatens the church more than bad preaching or institutional self-preservation—or any of our usual gripes—is a tendency to intellectualize faith, tucking it far away from our bones and our bodies and our tear ducts. (This habit is especially noticeable in many predominantly White congregations, whose theologies were shaped by the Enlightenment’s love of reason and tendency to reduce faith to a series of ideas.)

Given the glut of data already clogging the brains of young people in the Digital Age, the last thing they need is more ideas about God. What they need—and what we all need—is God, Incarnation, God in human skin.

Prayer for the Week

I am no longer my own, but thine.

Put me to what thou wilt, rank me with whom thou wilt.

Put me to doing, put me to suffering.

Let me be employed by thee or laid aside for thee,
exalted for thee or brought low by thee.

Let me be full, let me be empty.

Let me have all things, let me have nothing.

I freely and heartily yield all things
to thy pleasure and disposal.

And now, O glorious and blessed God,
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
thou art mine, and I am thine. So be it.

And the covenant which I have made on earth,
let it be ratified in heaven. Amen.

Interesting, as yesterday at Bible study we discussed the upcoming split that is happening in the Methodist Church. We saw the commonality between the arguments within the church and the arguments occuring every day in our country. This failure to compromise, I believe is the greatest threat to our denomination. I also see how it might affect churches as our pastor related that there are those within each church that do not agree with the majority and therefore leave that church to find another that supports their ideology. I know if my church was not all inclusive I would have to leave.
H continues to decline. He told me that he worked all night when I exited my bedroom first thing this morning. Which obviously isn’t true. Then he told me he works all evening and it doesn’t cost me a cent. He also continues to think there is somewhere else he needs to go, like another home. He had his shoes out early this morning so I will hide them so he can’t leave and wander about and get lost.

Hmmm – many things come to mind…complacency, comfortability, fundamentalism.
It has been pretty interesting as my small group has been making its way through Luke – seeing the actions and words of the Pharisees, Sadducees, scribes – what they prioritized, how they acted and reacted to Christ. One of our questions for this past week dealt with false religion vs true religion. I believe our lives must be lived from the inside out…it begins with the heart stance.
Such warm temps again yesterday that I was able to get in another walk after dinner, prior to study. With only a light jacket – what a gift. Sun is out again this morning, although it isn’t supposed to be nearly as warm.
A big upset in basketball last night as the multiple time state champ got beat by a much lower seed. This bodes well for my god son’s team – as they play this evening. Should they win – they now do not have to face the behemoth on Saturday. This team knocked them out last year in the round of 8. This team has a well known alumnus – LeBron James. But, my god son’s team needs to take care of business this evening. It won’t be an easy game.

The lack of faith, spiritual truths aren’t proved by science, physical evidence. I also agree with the factors mentioned by Julie and Jill. Abraham moved based on faith. Just imagine that! Pick up your whole family and move following God’s direction. Inclusion is a newer reason, but one that should have been a basic tenet from the time of Jesus. Snow coming as I’m used too – every other day. It’s early March-in like a lion.
Replacement computer on the way. Thankful for that.
Prayers for Julie caring for h. Keeping try of him is a 24/7 job. Glad you get some time to yourself. That’s essential
Great to see your godson Jill playing in the post season.
Sometimes the simplest things bring joy we couldn’t imagine.
I got to see my son sitting in a chairlift seat that served on Mount Mansfield in Stowe VT starting in 1940. In the late 50s I rode in the same kind of seat on that mountain.. Why that chair is in NH is a big mystery..
Handel’s Messiah continues as we spend 40 days with the Messiah. Lenten blessings.

My opinion is that the “enforcers” are the greatest threat to the church: those who weaponize religion to hurt others, Jesus focused on love. As Jesus followers, we are commanded to do the same. In This week’s reading from Romans, Paul says our faith rests on grace through God’s love.
David is progressing in PT and growing in independence. He has an appointment with a nephrologist on 3/9 to address the chronic kidney disease diagnosis. We miss our little Scout Finch. Letting her go was for the best, but we miss her so.
Thanks to y’all for your insights into today’s question. Love to you all.
