Today’s Reflection
Women such as Miriam and Hagar whose names were known, women of the wilderness whose names went unrecorded, and women who existed only in vision or dream: perhaps it was these women whose stories helped inspire and sustain those who followed after them in the desert. Perhaps the presence of these desert foremothers lingered in the landscape and assured the women who came after that even in the deepest desert there are wellsprings and in the wilderness, wings.
—Jan L. Richardson, In the Sanctuary of Women: A Companion for Reflection and Prayer (Upper Room Books, 2010)

Today’s Scripture
The prophet Miriam, Aaron’s sister, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women went out after her with tambourines and with dancing.
—Exodus 15:20 (NRSVUE)
Prayer for the Week
We are waking, God.
We are waking,
and we pray
that we may know you
as manna in the desert,
wellsprings in the wilderness,
honey from the rock,
O God our habitation
and our way.

The stories of Mary, Elisabeth, Ruth, Hagar, Mary and Martha, the woman at the well, the woman who touched Jesus’s robe, the woman who asked for the crumbs under the table, Mary Magdalene, who first saw the resurrected Jesus, the woman Jesus forgave as He wrote in the sand, Peter’s mother-in-law, Esther. and the many unnamed women who followed and supported Jesus. Thank You, Lord
Those in the Facebook group for caregivers of Parkinson’s sufferers. They help me with practical advice and their perseverance sustains me.
The stories told by members of the cancer support group have proven to be very meaningful to me. This past Sunday, a lady spoke of the 51 surgeries she has had…and she faces another one in two weeks. Through it all, she praises God. The leader of the group commented – and I thought my 19 surgeries were a lot – he a two time cancer survivor…colo-rectal as well as melanoma. They are unwavering. So much what I needed to hear and see when mom was still alive, and no less impactful now.
I hit tennis balls for 20 minutes today, before dinner with my friend and our book discussion. Wasn’t as warm as I had hoped, but grateful to have done it.
My god-son’s team won a nerve-wracking game last night – and play for the district final this Saturday. Going to be intense from here on out, as long as they “survive and advance”.
One more day in the work week. Last week went so fast, until Friday. We will see how tomorrow goes. I have a meeting after school with a parent. His son is proving to be quite a challenge. Our conversation tomorrow will prove interesting, if nothing else.
This space has become quite quiet. Praying for those who drop in.
