Today’s Reflection
In preparing for visitors, I identified actions I’m now incorporating into my spiritual life: Discarding the unsightly. Valuing the good. Cleaning the dirty. Tending the true. Bringing in the fresh. Making room for a guest.
Lord, you are the unseen guest at every meal. Give me grace and strength to prepare myself and my home to welcome you.

Today’s Scripture
[Jesus said,] “For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home.”
—Matthew 25:35 (NLT)
Prayer for the Week
Lord, you serve as a model for any host: you accept us as we are, even as you call us to be our best selves. As we serve others, give us a vision for anticipating the banquet we will someday, in some way, enjoy in your kingdom.

In answer to the question about how to be more welcoming, I see the Matthew passage above and Jesus’s words as providing the best answer. When we attend to others in hospitality by first sincerely seeking to become attuned to their needs, we honor and serve both them , and also God.
Wonderfully said Rusty. Thank you for your post. Hope to read more from you.
Make home a welcoming place, kept clean, tidy, and inviting.
Bible/book study this morning. Hopefully a fall foliage walk or drive this afternoon.
Blessings to all, Prayers for peace. Problem resolution. Thank You, Lord.
I am remebering the Bible story of Jesus visiting with Martha and Mary. He stated that “few things are needed.” He just needed people to listen and absorb his message. When people come to our home for a meal they need to feel welcome and listened to and valued for who they are, not what we can do for them. They care not if our home is cluttered as long as our hearts are pure. If we give of ouselves freely, that is enough.
