New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

On a spiritual level, I believe God joins forces with us to shed light in dim corners. Friends say they’re more grounded in faith with a clearer sense of selfhood because they’ve endured cancer, and so am I.
Linda, breast cancer survivor: I know it sounds strange, but I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything.
Woman with brain cancer: I’m making peace with cancer by focusing on what it is teaching me.

—Jan Woodard, Texting Through Cancer: Ordinary Moments of Community, Love, and Healing (Upper Room Books, 2021)

Today’s Scripture

Do not fear, for I am with you,
do not be afraid, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,

    The passing of my wife and overcoming financial problems certainly have helped ground me in faith.
    Additionally, Bible study, a new church, and walks in the woods have been helpful as well. Posting later in the day, but I’m the first one, that’s not a goal. Thankful my two wobbly lower front teeth are gone, once healed, a solution to replace them will be found. They were very much becoming a nuisance. Rain comes and goes, thankful no flooding or damage. Will be off to see my daughter and granddaughters early Thursday morning. Very much looking forward to the train ride that will help me get there. Be safe, dry where it rains, and rainy where ist is dry, may forest fires, heat waves, and hurricanes diminish. Bible study in the morning. Thank You, Lord, for Your eternal presence.

    Witnessing up close and personal mom’s struggle – grounded me so firmly in His grip. How I wish this could have been mom’s experience.
    This book is so powerful, not just regarding cancer, or breast cancer, but any significant struggle. I am not sure if I mentioned it – but I passed this book along, cautiously, to my teacher friend who battled breast cancer since the start of Covid. She hasn’t mentioned it and I don’t believe her faith is where mine is. I am praying for her receptivity.
    What is written above is so parallel to what I hear at the cancer support meetings. Yes, Father, whatever You deem necessary for my life, if it will draw me closer to You and work towards my sanctification and becoming Christ-like – bring ALL of it on.
    It was absolutely fantastic to be in front of students at my whiteboard today. Six came, more than I expected. And even tho I was meeting them for the first time – they were engage-able and receptive for the hour I had them.
    As to your comment Robert – my program voted on this time slot – as a 2 week intervention period. We all felt burnt out and didn’t want any part of June. So, yes, it is odd, but then – we are in odd times and it is not your typical summer school.
    Met up with my sister afterwards for lunch and a bike ride. I just can’t say enough about how things are turning around with my attitude towards her. God is doing quite a work in me. More, too, of this, Father. I am grateful.
