New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Advent is about light, God’s light to the world. The star in the sky guiding the three magi was already God’s light to the world. That light, back then, from afar, is the light that shines in our hearts today. When I search for my own light during this season, I see that the light that shines within me is also a light that comes from afar. The light within me takes me back to that manger where Jesus was born as a refugee, hiding from a tyrant who was killing small children. The light of the fire that warmed Joseph, Mary, Jesus, and the animals is the same light that warms my heart when I feel cold.

Today’s Scripture

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”
—John 8:12 (NRSV)

Prayer for the Week

O God, thank you for the light from afar that came into our world when your Son, Jesus Christ, was born. Be with us as we await the birth of the Christ child in our hearts once again. Give us patience in the waiting. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

So, so many, but to mention those who come to my mind most often: My Spiritual Director M, the Friday Morning Bible Study guys, Theologians Graham Tomlin, Jane Williams and Michael Lloyd, author Esther De Waal, Episcopal Priest and my friend and co-teacher P, my close online Christian brothers M and P, this UR Family, and in and though all, my savior, keeper and constant companion – my Lord God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

I, too, have been blessed to have many spiritual pilgrims come along side me to advance me in my pilgrimage and maturation. Especially grateful for my new spiritual director – how she listens so well and guides me along.
School went fine today. I had an informal observation as this is not my official evaluation year. I think it went well, but you never know. Not sure if I will receive feedback face to face in a conversation, or merely feedback on a form.
Snowed a fair amount today – more blowing than sticking to the ground. But there was a fender bender outside my classroom window this morning. Looking forward to going home after school and a nice quiet evening.

Parents, a youth pastor, and more recently the Upper Room, and Bible study have shown light.
The long day on Saturday has tweaked my schedule. I’m getting back to normal, catching up. Thank You, Lord.
