New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Stopping gives us time to renew our energy and to replenish our emotional and spiritual resources. It gives us time when we can gather ourselves together, relax, and become calmer within. It’s almost impossible to reflect thoughtfully on our lives when we are continually living at full speed. Before we realize it, we find ourselves operating on autopilot, going from one activity to another without much thought. In contrast, stopping for a while enables us to recognize more clearly those destructive patterns of living that push our lives beyond their God-given limits and then to make clear choices to live in a more healthy and life-giving way.

Today’s Scripture

This is an awesome idea and one I have never done. I definitely see the value of this exercise and would like to undertake it soon.
Megan and I have plans to go to the Carnegie Museum of Art (CMOA) tomorrow and then the main building of the Carnegie Library. The Carnegie library has many branches located beyond Pitssburgh in the surrounding communities but the main building is connected to the museums (art and natural history) by an underground of tunnel. On Monday we have early morning eye doctor appointments. So I will be absent for several days. I do check in to see other’s posts. Looking forward to several enjoyable days . The eye doctor is a friend of ours. His father has been my eye doctor since ths doctor was still in high school. Megan had her first eye doctor appointment with this doctor the first year he was in practice. When his father retired I started seeing him. So we have known these men since before Megan was born!
Prayers for Ally’s David’s and Brad’s health and financial issues, for Jill’s, Larry’s and Roger’s health issues, for Lou’s daughter’s mental health issues, and for Robert and Erich’s relationship and mental health issues. Prayers for Marti and her staff. Jill, good luck with your changes to Roger’s diet and Megan said to tell you she is keeping the two of you in her thoughts.
Thank you for your prayers and may God bless all who visit here.

NEM provides the opportunity to stop every day. I’m thankful for that. Cooler, less humid weather here today, I still remember my 1950s visit to the Carnegie Museum in Pittsburgh, especially the dinosaurs. Very glad you have that museum and library there to enjoy. It’s also a blessing to have the eye care father and son team looking after you. Bought cat food for Pearl this morning, hope Roger responds to changes in his diet. It is sometimes easier to see the moats in another person’s eyes than in our own. Yes, I have some and am trying to resolve them, at the same time Erich has, in the view of many, more serious ones. Hope this can be helped, getting people to see mental health professionals is not an easy task. Thankful that the defective part in my car is under warranty and will be replaced. Yes, Prayers for Ally’s David’s and Brad’s health and financial issues, for Jill’s, Larry’s and Roger’s health issues, for Lou’s daughter’s mental health issues, and our dear friend Marcy. May the evacuation continue without further deaths or injury. I’m cautiously hopeful that Afghanistan ‘s people will be safe. Change is needed we’ll have see what transpires. Thankful for all that has been done. Prayers for the area in Ida’s path, sure hope the predictions are not realized and evacuation there goes well too.

Yesterday, following my conversation with dad, I felt my unsettledness rising as I stood there in the hallway, not wanting to return to the teacher’s meeting. Right then I had to pause, I had to ask for God’s help to not let this spiral me downward. I had to remain present and trust God for His strength and guidance in this situation.
Auto pilot is my enemy, pausing and reflecting on God is what is needed – and I am more able to make the proper transition. Sometimes I am too weary, and I get swept away. Yesterday, with the full day ahead of me, it was imperative that I get back to my center.
My friend and I went back to the sushi restaurant she enjoyed for her birthday dinner, and we had lunch there. We ran a few quick errands to a few stores a bit further away. I asked dad if he wanted me to pick up anything for him. I was able to get him a couple pieces of swordfish and my friend stopped by his place so I could drop them off. He said he is feeling really good today – the best he has felt since this all started 5+ months ago. That was encouraging – consider that before I talked with him at 10:30 he had scrubbed the kitchen floor, hit a small bucket of golf balls at the range and taken a 2 mile walk – and it was hot already.
I was able to pick up some things, get them separated and stored in the refrigerator and freezer. Going to sit back and watch some golf this afternoon. Waiting for it to cool off a little, or at least let the sun get a little lower, before I get out for a walk.
