New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

In time you will sense God changing you from the inside out, helping you respond to the conditions of your life differently. Remember, you will gradually find yourself living with different habits, attitudes, words, and behaviors. You will also discover—and this is an amazing gift of grace—that you are not alone. Jesus, in the power of his Spirit, steps out of the pages of the Gospel and becomes an empowering presence and close companion in the daily experience of your life.

—Trevor Hudson, Hope Beyond Your Tears: Experiencing Christ’s Healing Love, with a foreword by Dallas Willard (Upper Room Books, 2012)

Today’s Question

When have you seen gradual changes lead to transformation in your life? Join the conversation.

Today’s Scripture

All of us, with unveiled faces, seeing the glory of the Lord as though reflected in a mirror, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord, the Spirit.
—2 Corinthians 3:18 (NRSV)

Prayer for the Week

God of Compassion, we offer you our tears—tears of release, tears of grief, tears of joy. Receive them in love, and reveal to us the healing they can bring. Amen. Submit your prayer to The Upper Room.

Reading the Bible, coming to NEM, Bible study, being on the Worship Team, working with Erich, and interacting with friends both locally and on the internet have all played a role in transforming, growing. bettering me. Very hopefully the move to the Poconos will keep this going. Sure enjoyed a visit to a sugar house yesterday. It’s a rite to spring for me. The evaporator used to boil down the sap into syrup was built in my boyhood VT town. In high school I made maple syrup too. One way or another the plumbing job will be done by Monday. Touched base with our mortgage banker, so far so good. Zoom/in person worship tomorrow followed by a board of directors meeting of the railroad historical society. Time to eat breakfast. Prayers for pet health, resources and benefits to sustain life, well-being, successful moves and adjustments, good ends to the school year, fun at tennis and golf for the NEM family. Thank You, Lord.

I am assuming it is Bible reading, Devotionals and interacting with the NEM crew that has resulted in the change I sense in myself. I am calmer, nicer and more even tempered. I have more patience as well.
Megan filled out the application for the two kitties and we are hopeful. I have been spending time playing with our two boys and they now anticipate the play and follow me around all morning. I will be trying to go to church and spend the day shopping tomorrow by myself. This is the first time since my many hospital stays and leg injuries.
Prayers for Ally’s disability application, David’s biopsy anxiety, and Scout and Jeremy’s health issues. Prayers for Jill and her students, Roger’s health issues and Larry’s home purchase. Prayers for Robert’s move and the resolution of his plumbing issues.

In my new role of caregiver, I see that I am being transformed!! Slowly I am coming to grips with self-control, not every time, but more times than before, as I work with all the healthcare workers on our team. I am also learning the blessing/gift of offering/receiving forgiveness as God bids me to come at the end of the day to reflect/journal and relax in His arms, knowing that He is in control of everything.
This passage from 2nd Peter 1 vs 5-9 inspires me to get out of my boat.
5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.
Prayers for each as we live in His Blessings today.

Over the last15 or so years, I I have been transformed in the way I feel about the way God’s grace works, groups of people, the way I see the world and how I engage with it. The gray areas are big and some things are harder because I don’t view them in the simplistic way I used to. I’m thankful for those changes and for the new. As a person who sees herself as flexible but really is not, it is a big step to go with the flow. i thank God for them , and for those who help me along the way, including you, my NEM friends.

Yesterday I was reminiscing about my relationship with my mom – it was challenging for several years – as I was strong willed, didn’t like the way she spoke to dad and stood up for him, and was not mature enough in Christ to desire transformation in that area. There were some ugly episodes where I was not necessarily the person who was initially wrong, but was always the one who apologized, the only one I might add. Finally, instead of griping to God about her, I asked Him to change me – and that is exactly what happened. Thankfully, as the last 4-5 years, there was never an issue, I held my tongue and God was gracious, so very gracious in how He changed me. My dear friend consistently prayed for me, and this was something which was a focus of some of my time in spiritual direction. I am so grateful to have a clean conscience now that she is gone, and to know we had those last years where we enjoyed each others’ company and I, by the grace of God, was able to hold my tongue.
Now, speaking of transformation. I digressed a bit, well – maybe a lot, on the tennis court this afternoon. It was a frustrating match. I had been improving on monitoring and controlling my emotions – but they got away from me this afternoon, and I instantly regretted it. Will start afresh the next time I take to the court.
Little Roger has had several good days and he was quite attentive to the birds in the window bird feeder this afternoon. This is an encouragement to me.
Watching some basketball while reviewing some scholarship applications. I have chaired the scholarship committee for several years now for a non-profit in the area. The foundation has become a victim of Covid, amongst other things and the organization is liquidating its account and awarding 3 -4 times the amount of scholarships as usual. This organization has been in place since 1941, but its time has come and we are closing up shop. I am meeting with two other board members on Monday to decide on the recipients.
Looking forward to church tomorrow – as I have missed for several weeks due to state tennis play-offs, testing Roger and cancer support group.
